Trying to Get Pregnant

When to start OPK?

Hey Ladies,

I bought the FR easy read ovulation kit tonight. As I'm sure most of you know it comes with 7 tests, and since my cycle is always 30 days tells me to start on CD 13, I'm worried maybe I O super early and I will miss it if I wait to start on day 13. Does anyone here O super early? Can you give me some tips for starting OPK? TIA

Re: When to start OPK?

  • Well, I had asked a question similar to this. I just started charting, so in time, I am hoping this helps me pinpoint a time to start Opk's without going through dozens of them.

I decided to start right after AF. I know that is totally insane, but I have NO CLUE when I ovulate and I just want something to record. I use IC's and happen to have a lot of them , so it makes it really affordable. Considering you only have 7, I would go by what they recommend to start out with and see if you catch your surge. You could start a little earlier if you want to, I'm sure it will be just fine either way.

    Good luck!!

  • I have O'ed earlier, normally I am around CD 16/17-but on occasion have O'ed on CD 12/CD13.  I typically buy the clearblue easy digital smiley face OPK's off Amazon. I usually start on CD 10 and do one in the morning and another around 6pm. Last month, I caught my surge only one 1 pm opk. GL!

  • I would probably start testing on CD 11 to be safe.

If there is a next cycle I would recommend these: https://www.amazon.com/Wondfo-40-Ovulation-10-Pregnancy/dp/B001FYLNVU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306977850&sr=8-1

You can test as often as you want :)

  • Thanks everyone, I wish that amazon.com would ship to Canada since the canadian side doesn't sell tests or opks. I debated trying dollar store opk's but opted for one month of the expensive ones to see what happens. I really wish my work and sleeping patterns were more normal so I could give temping a try. :(

I have also bought on Ebay, my DH is Canadian and some of his friends wives had good luck with shipping to Canada.

Can you elaborate on this a bit more? Maybe the ladies around here can give some insight into whether or not you can give temping a go!

I work day shift and night shift, mostly nights though. Last week I was on days and slept all night going to bed between 10 pm and 1 am, getting up at 8 am to start work at 10:30 am. So technically if I'm on day shift I wouldn't have a problem temping.

This week and next week I'm on nights. I've had the past few days off but been going to bed around 3 am and getting up at 11 am or so. I work Fri, Sat, Sun night all till 4 am and will go to bed probably around 6 am and get up anywhere between noon and 3 pm probably.  I just can't find a good time where I will have been sleeping for at least 4 hours. My sleep schedule is just so messed up for temping IMO. :( Any suggestions I welcome though. TIA

Could you possible go to bed at 6AM after working nights and set your alarm for 8AM to temp quick and go back to sleep? That way you're temping at 8AM every day. I think I would rather do that with only 2 hours of sleep beforehand instead of not temping at all.

  • Good point Bella, do you think that if I was to get more sleep than 2 hours it would effect my temp drastically?

I think that the days that you get more then 2 hours your temp might be a little bit lower then the days where you only get 2 hours but I would still do it to be able to see my temps charted :)

  • I'd recommend getting cheapie OPKs from the dollar store or amazon, and test twice a day starting CD10. This is what I do.
