High energy jobs + pregnancy

This is more of a vent than anything...

Working as an in-home childcare provider and being in the 3rd trimester is a difficult thing to do.  I am constantly on my feet, bending over, getting up and down off the floor, and lifting heavy children.  At the end of the day, I hurt.  Luckily, I only watch teacher's children full time, so over the summer (until I go into labor) I only have a couple of children on tuesdays and thursdays... 7 days to go til summer break!

I feel like I put so much into work during the day, because I refuse to slack off and I am very hard on myself!  By the evenings, I have nothing left.  DH has been a saint with helping with C and the house and it makes me feel really guilty!  When I was pregnant with C, I only had to work til 3:30 and had lots of opportunities to sit down during the day when I worked with students (even though I was still on my feet a lot), this is just a lot different.  And I really do feel bad that DH is taking so much responsibility, because he has a lot to do too.

I'm hoping for some words of encouragement and maybe someone to tell me to suck it up!  ;)  I really want to make the most of my 3 weekdays off this summer and do lots of fun stuff with C and do some reorganizing/super cleaning stuff at our house.  So I don't need to loose any more energy for sure...  I feel like I am not going to have any time to relax myself!  I don't really need it, right?

  • I think taking care of children is tiring enough much less while pregnant, especially 3rd tri!  Definitely try to take it easy and don't be too hard on yourself.  I also wouldn't feel bad about having your DH picking up the slack, things are only going to get busier with a newborn and it's not like you just sit around all day to begin with.  Hopefully you can enjoy some time off in the summer and get rested up and maybe some extra sleep!

  • You are definitely being too hard on yourself. Let DH take on what he's offering to do in the evenings, because you are both working hard all day, but your physical labor is probably taking a huge toll on your body. You need to kick and relax with your feet up in the evenings!

  • I definitely wouldn't feel bad about letting DH pick up some slack.  I only worked 3 days a week, but by the end of the day working in a nursing home lifting patients, doing exercises, being on my feet, and walking a lot, I was exhausted.  It was all I had to get dinner and survive until DH got home to take over with DS.  Trust me when I tell you to take advantage and relax whenever you can.  Because once that baby comes, you will not have time.  Smile
