Another Zantac question

My LO has reflux and we are giving him Zantac twice a day with the dropper.  It has been flavored with grape and he likes to spit it out, even if we give him his Nuk to suck on for a bit.  Should we add it to the formula so we know he gets it?  Any other ideas for LO's who don't like their meds?  Any helpful things anyone has found for reflux babies??  TIA!

Re: Another Zantac question

  • We usually give the Zantac with her head tilted back so it is very difficult for her to spit it out.  Also, aim the dropper to nearly the back of LO's mouth.  I've even gone as far as keeping her mouth shut until I hear the swallow.   I don't know about putting it in the bottle. I wonder if it would change the composition or something.

  • Our pediatrician told us if DD would not take the medicine from the dropper, we could put it in a small amount of formula.  It is best not to put it in a full serving just in case the baby doesn't drink all of it.  My DD gets 4 oz servings.  So when "I'm giving her a dose, I place it in 2 oz of formula and then give her the remaining 2 oz.

  • We tilt his head back and give it to him near his cheek. I then stick a paci in his mouth and he usually swallows it without problem.

  • I bought something called "the medicator"  It's a pacifier made for dispensing medicine.  He's not on Zantac (yet), but I use it to give him Gripe Water.

  • We tilt DD's head back. She seems to swallow it no problem.

  • We had the misfortune of the pharmacy giving us the default Zantac with peppermint flavor. Ick!

I put a clean finger in DD's mouth and let her start sucking, then I'd squirt about 0.1ml into the back of her cheek so she'd suck it down without catching much of the peppermint flavor.
