I just got back from R's 2 month checkup. I was reading all the little sheets they had out at the well baby apts and one said you shouldn't put sunscreen on a baby under 6 months old. Thoughts?
There is another post about this...I think it's on 0-3 months about the difference between sunscreen and sunblock and that sunblock is safe at any age and includes a list of appropriate sunblocks.
Just a thought- but it's up to you and your pedi I guess.
I second reading that PSA that was posted on 0-3 about the difference between sunblock and sunscreen.
We will be using the CA Babies line this summer if needed, as it was approved by my pedi. I plan to only use it if she will be out in direct sun for a long time, and I will be limiting that exposure while she is so little. So we won't be using it often, and not on her face (hats instead).
I think I remember that it also has something to do with babies having a mildly impaired "sweating" mechanism, and having sunscreen/sunblock on would prevent them from cooling off (since their pores would be "blocked"). Their skin is SO sensitive that I just can't imagine exposing her to the blazing sun anway...it's tough because I have two active boys, but the baby stays in the shade and wears a hat for when we're briefly exposed as we walk from place to place.

Here's a post that's further down on this page - sorry, not clicky:

I made that post a couple days ago. I will continue to post it every so often because so many people don't realize there is a difference.
The right kind of sunblock = OK
Chemical sunscreen = NOT OK
