As I'm sitting at home today due to not being able to go on the field trip with my 2nd graders (doctor advised
), I'm dreaming of all the things I cant wait to indulge in in unlimited quantities!
My list:
1. MILK!!!! I love milk but cant drink it often now because it really spikes me.
2. candy- anytime I want it!
3. Pasta- and lots of it!
4. Bread- a big loaf of french bread with butter!
I am also looking forward to my chicken aversion to disappear! I make it for hubby and I, but I never end up eating it. I havent been able to eat chicken since about week 10.
What are you looking forward to eating unlimited quantities of?! ![]()
Re: GD Moms- What cant you wait to indulge in?
Ditto the milk! It spikes my numbers, so I usually only have it as part of my bedtime snack. Also, pizza. I'm not allowed to eat it, too many carbs in the crust and too much sugar in the sauce
What I really can't wait to do is stop eating string cheese. After 2 GD pregnancies, I never want to eat another string cheese. Ever.

Pasta
Ice cream - I basically can't have any amount right now because it spikes my numbers
Milk - As much as I can handle at one sitting
Fruit whenever I want it, especially strawberries
French fries
Oh, the list I have!!!!
1. Milk and a whole bunch of it
2. Cold cereal, especially frosted mini wheats (also oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc)
3. Homemade bread, especially pepperoni bread/stromboli
4. Chinese garlic chicken with lo mein noodles
5. Scones, NY style bagels with cream cheese, crescent rolls, etc
And, I'm looking forward to not eating peanut butter for a while. I think I've gone through 4 jars so far with this diet.
Does everyone love milk this much normally? I have always been a milk drinker but like everyone else, I fiend for it now. My measly cup before bed is just sad. I want a pint or 2!
My biggest is doughnuts though, doughnuts and coffee. Krispy Kreme galzed or Dunkin Donuts maple iced and a big ole caffeine filled coffee.
my read shelf:
I was HUGE milk drinker my whole life so my one glass before bed is sad. It makes me want more!
I think I've added a few more things to my list that you ladies have mentioned! Only 6ish more weeks for me to wait.... I can do it, I can do it....
I have always been a milk drinker. Before the GD, I drank 3 gallons a week by myself. I used to drink way more milk than water even.
Whoa! I was a glass a day before preggo, but was up to over a gallon a week pre-GD. I do miss it more than anything else. Sigh.
my read shelf:
Yes. I CRAVE milk when pregnant, and sometimes even when I'm not. Pre-GD with my first I was drinking at least 2 gallons a week. This time I knew I'd be GD so I didn't even bother caving to the cravings. I miss it *sigh*

Ugh! I only have a week left!

I miss being able to eat fruit...15 g is just sad.
I miss being able to eat cheese, avocado and beans all in one meal. (My MFM limits his patients to 5 gm of fat per meal).
Homemade bread, waffles, and pancakes will be great to eat.
For some reason, I have been thinking about udon noodles, so I'll add those to my list.
I am not a big ice cream eater, but hearing about all of your ice cream snacks at bedtime makes me wish for a bowl of full-fat, full-sugar ice cream. The Skinny Cow sandwiches are good, but I miss the real thing!
You don't have to continue to eat the GD diet after delivering. GD almost always goes away once the placenta is delivered. If it doesn't, then it's likely Type II and not gestational anyway. Yes, it's smart to watch your carbs and continue a healthy diet, but you don't have to give up everything, just be smart about what you're eating - as should everyone, not just women who have had GD. Indulging in some pizza once a month won't make me a diabetic or cause me to not be around to see my girls grow up.
Also, even if you are diabetic after birth, it's not a death sentence. Millions of people live with diabetes every day and live long, happy, full lives. My mom is Type II and was around not only to watch her kids grow up, but now her grandkids, too.

If you still have diabetes after delivery you likely had it before getting pregnant but didn't know. GD is all about the placenta and its issues. You could have GD with this pregnancy and not with the next, just depends!
I dont think there is anything indulging in the things you've been steering clear of every now and them. I dont think we are looking to eat our list of foods all in one day or even all in the same week. But I do know that after dealing with GD since week 12 I will certainly have a few foods I havent been able to eat in the first few weeks after birth!
ICE CREAM!!!! Ice cream of all kinds and flavors...soft serve, sundaes, Ben & Jerry's. You name it.
I also miss my regular morning cereals, too. And wish I could drink more milk than my sugars allow.
NOT pricking my fingers multiple times a day. :-)
The food isn't even an issue; I was already eating like most diabetics are recommended to -- the only thing that spiked my blood sugar was the damn GTT they did.
