Angelcare monitor false alarm (maybe-first time using)

First, the good news.  We made the transition from RnP to crib on Monday night with nary a whimper of protest.  The first night he slept 9-6 and last night from 8-5.  I'm kind of in shock, actually.

The bad news is that we used the Angelcare monitor last night for the first time and the movement alarm went off at 3:30 AM.  When I ran in there, he was curled up in a ball very still and had shifted over to the side of the center of the crib.  I shook him so quickly and he stretched out, so I really didn't get a chance to see if there was really an issue or he was just off center.  It was very scary and of course I couldn't fall back asleep.

Did anyone else have any issues with false alarms and how did you adjust the sensitivity if your baby is a mover?  My brain is too sleep deprived for the higher level of thinking required to figure out if I should turn the sensitivity up or down.

Ive had that happen once when DD scooted to the top edge of the crib, I would just make sure your pad under the mattress is still centered... I kept the sensitivity the same so no advice there. And thats great the transition went so well :)

This is for all the caterpillars that never became butterflies. And for all the butterflies that never felt the wind in their wings. And for all the hearts that had hopes and dreams of a wondrous flight together.

  • you need to turn it up - we were having lots of false alarms - i even took her to the pedi- they said the monitors are known for false alarms and not to worry. it shouldnt go off if they move really though if you have it centered under the crib on a board (we have it on a large book). my dd moves like from one end to the other and its fine now that we have the sensitivty up. the pedi said his advice is to get rid of it, but id rather be in there 20 times a night for false alarms than miss a real one. i sleep way better with it on, and now with it set to 5, it hasnt gone off in  a few nites. sorry for the iht!!

  • When we first started to use ours, it was set to 4. We had a few false alarms and set it to 5. Since  then we have only had one and it because R had slid to the edge of the crib.
