carpet v hard wood

we have hard wood floors...no we aren't switching to carpet but my LO is having a really hard time with this crawling thing. Should we think about getting an area rug?

Re: carpet v hard wood

  • Our home has hardwood throughout and DD can only crawl because she is either slipping or sticking to the floor. We have a lake house that has mostly carpeting and she does much better with crawling when she is there. I would get a area rug!

  • We don't have hardwood floors, but C definitely did better on the carpet than on the tile in the kitchen when he first started crawling. After he got the hang of it, he didn't slip and slide so much on the tile.

Maybe take your LO's pants off to let his/her knees get a better grip on the floor?

  • It's a little early for us, but I'm starting to put together Annabel's playroom which has hardwood flooring. I just ordered an area rug from Home Depot (free shipping!) because, not only do I think it will help when she wants to crawl, it will protect her when she takes tumbles as she's starting to walk, etc.

If you get one, make sure that you consider getting a darker color for spills!

  • I have an area rug but I swear up and down I would rather carpet over hw. One of my friends has those foamy floor mats with the alphabet on her floor for her lo.

  • We have hardwood and tile throughout our main level and carpet in our basement (ranch style house).  DS does much better on the carpet, but he's coming around on our hardwoods.  He can get going pretty good, but it took him a while to get used to the slipping.  I would definitely put down some rugs.

We are ripping the carpet out of the basement and replacing it with a laminate flooring soon. I hate, hate, hate carpet.

  • We have hardwood and an area rug in the living room, DS does much better on the rug, he can get aound on te hardwood but its more of a sliding/scooting than crawling like on the rug. So I say it's a good idea.
