MFI Weekly Check In
This group is for those of us dealing with male factor issues. We
welcome everyone but mostly we are dealing with low count, motility, morphology or all three. Male infertility is a mysterious world filled with questions no one, including REs, urologists, acupuncturists or anyone else seem to have the answers to. Any treatment suggested is a coin toss for success and a 3 month wait for a fresh batch of swimmers. Most of us are told the only answer is IUI or IVF w/ICSI. The purpose of this group is to support each other through shared experiences and to share any info we can because the more informed we are the better. We have a check in every Sunday night/ Monday morning but I will try to post a link later in the afternoon/evening also. Welcome and baby dust to all!

DX: MFI - less than 1 million sperm, 26% motility
DH put on anastrozole to increase counts
June/July 2011 100 mg Clomid + TS IUI#1 & IUI 2 - BFN :-(
Forced break due to DH getting spinal surgery in August 2011
IVF - January 2012: BFN
FET in April 2012 - BFP at 6dp5dt! Beta #1 at 9dp5dt: 82.5, Beta #2 at 12dp5dt: 352 Beta #3 at 19dp5dt: 6000, saw heartbeat and one little bean at 5W6D!
After nearly 3 years of waiting our LO was born December 18th 2012!
Update: Just started diet today (no processed foods and only organic meats), as it did help on my first IVF. Trying to 'cleanse' my body to make it baby ready. Looking at July for IVF #3.
QOTW: At this point, we are probably taking a week to visit DH's parents. and MAYBE go to the beach for a few days with my SIL.

TTC Since 10/2007 with no luck and a 'go with the flow' attitude
1/1010 FINALLY decided to have testing done, dx MFI
7/2010 - DH starts Clomid to increase testosterone and hopefully sperm count
10/2010 - Still low (but improved) sperm count.
11/30/10 - IUI #1 and only = BFN
February 2011 - IVF #1 w/ ICSI =
Chemical PG (Beta 1: 10, Beta 2: 19, Beta 3: 17) :-(
April 2011 - IVF #2 w/ ICSI = BFN :-(
September 2011 - IVF #3 w/ ICSI = BFFN
November 2011 - AMH level tested - .83 (normal for age range)
February 2012 - IVF #4 w/ ICSI = (best response ever yet still) BFFN
April 2012 - DNA testing - NORMAL, RE suggests cycling again with own eggs or using DE
On Break indefinitely...not sure we can afford the emotional and financial roller coaster anymore.

Update: Estrogen pills and patches for FET, lining at an 8. I'm expecting the call any time now to tell me if we're starting PIO tonight or doing one more lining check (The minimum for starting progesterone is an 8- but the nurse wasn't sure if the RE wanted me to be a little more fluffy). If we start tonight, I'll have transfer before our next check in. This whole treatment cycle is moving faster than I expected but I guess I've always done well with building a lining.
QOTW: We're pretty treatment focused at the moment- DH has finally gotten comfortable with the level of interaction with doctors and is willing to just keep trying back to back cycles through at least rest of the summer/early fall (maybe another holiday break like we did last year) if this FET doesn't work. Previously he wanted to stop after one IVF/FET for a year so this was a big change. So saving our pennies and time off for possible treatment. If we get pregnant we'll probably take a celebratory road trip

Update: We have decided to put off IVF until next spring. H just wasn't quite ready.
QOTW: I will be taking a few days off in June to head to Colorado for my future SIL's bridal shower. Then my parents and grandparents will be visiting H and I over the fourth of July. Taking almost a week off beginning of August for my little brother's wedding!!! Ending the summer with a quick trip early in September to Colorado, to meet my BFF's little boy after he makes his appearance. All fun trips, but wish H and I were going some where just the 2 of us.
I had my monitoring appt and here are the stats
Two folliles measuring at 20 and 21 respectively. Both on my left side. Just one follile on my right measuring just 8.
My lining sucked (4.6..she wanted it at 7 at least) so the RE has me taking Estradiol 3x a day for the next two weeks.
Trigger is tonight.
IUI is on Thursday @ 11 am
Progesterone inserts start on Saturday
Had an acupuncture appointment after the monitoring appointment and then another one right after my IUI on Thursday.
Oh and the RE thinks I may have a deficiency in Vitamin D so she made me get b/w for that too. Sheesh, I have been poked and prodded alot today but all worth it.

DH and I are going on our annual camping and gold prospecting trip the week of July 4th and I can.not. wait!!!!! It will be a full week of peace and quiet and much needed time together.

Status update....last E2 and ultrasound today...E2 was at 2722 and Trigger is set for 7:45 tonight with ER on Thursday bright and early!!
We have 20+ plump and healthy eggs (measuring16-20 in size) with more coming up right behind them!!
I'll keep you posted on Thursday/Friday with the update!!!

Update: My second beta came back at 3461! We are elated. U/s isn't scheduled until June 13.
QOTW: I am taking a week off in June so DH and I can go and visit my grandfather who lives about 1900 miles away and then I am taking half of August and half of September off so we can go back home (~1600 miles) for a couple of weddings, to visit family, and to bring home our new puppy!
Update: DH had his 2nd S/A. Count was 20 million, 35% motility and morph was still at 1%. We have our IVF consult with the Dr. on the 6th and are hoping to start my BCP cycle when I finish with my current cycle.
QOTW: I'm taking the week of the 4th of July off to visit my family in Oklahoma but that's about it.

QOTW: I'm taking a few days in June for IVF and in August I'm going on a girls beach trip. DH and I don't have anything planned yet for the summer.

We have severe MFI in all three categories and a grade II varicocele.
I live in Europe, so things are a little different here. For some reason getting a SA done seems to take 3 weeks! I've yet to figure out why.
We're also dealing with a bacterial infection. My husband was treated once and this time there's new bacteria in his semen. I've had reoccurring UTIs for years, so this is probably why.
We are now both being treated again, but they said this won't improve things substantially. We have our first RE appointment 1 July, although we already know IVF is our option.
QOTD: We are taking time off due to this ongoing infection, but we'll be traveling and I will get to visit my family. We haven't told anyone about our problems, so I am hoping to talk to my mom about it in person.
