Johns Hopkins Hospital experiences?

Has anyone delivered at JHH? How was your experience? Any tips?

Thanks!

Re: Johns Hopkins Hospital experiences?

  • I loved my old obgyn who would have delivered at JHH, but I decided to deliver closer to home.  But I am considering switching back.  I love my ob, but I had a very bad experience with my hospital stay.  I guess my determining factor will be if I can have a vbac or rcs.

My good friend delivered there twice.  She had glowing reports the first time - but her daughter also had some serious problems after her birth, so it was really the best place for them to be.  I didn't hear anything after the second but that's probably because she was taking care of 2.

  • My friend just delivered there and had a pretty good experience, other than they called her as she was leaving for her scheduled c-section to tell her they might not be able to fit her in that day. She had a very high risk delivery though and that was the only hospital in the state equipped to handle her baby's condition.

  • I did not deliver there but as a doula have attended women there.  I thought the nurses were fantastic.  My understanding is as a teaching hospital it is mostly residents that will see you during the delivery.  The times I have been there it is not the client's OB doing most of the hands on stuff but the resident.  Even then the births went smoothly!

  • Thanks everyone. As to the residents, as long as everything is going okay, residents can feel free to learn on me! It sounds like it's the place to be if things don't go away, as well.

  • I didn't deliver there.  I delivered at Anne Arundel, but my daughter was rushed there within an hour of me delivering her and has been under their care for the last three years.  It is a wonderful hospital!  The NICU was fantastic, she was in there for a month and every time we have any issues with her we take her to the Peds ER even though we live on the Eastern Shore.  She has been admitted and has had more surgieries than I can count at Hopkins and they are just wonderful.  I wouldn't go any where else if I had the choice.  With this next baby if there are any signs of issues my OBGYN has already cleared us to deliver at Hopkins verses anywhere else.
  • I delivered at JHH and it was a great experience. I was first going to deliver at Franklin Square but due to becoming a high risk pregnancy, I had to switch to JHH. The Ob office is great. Everyone is super nice. I did have a very long wait a few of my appointments.

The L&D floor was great along with the Mother/Baby Unit. I?m considering staying with the group for my next child as well.
