At what point does this usually happen? I don't even know what steps I'd take because I'm on Tricare. But I don't know how long to keep trying with my OB. Love him dearly, but when do I press the issue?

We went to an RE after a year of trying. I wish we'd gone sooner. I went to three different OB's trying to get help. It was a giant waste of time. OB's aren't fertility doctors. My original OB claimed to be one, but only did partial testing and gave us what ended up being terrible advice. When we moved back to the area where my DS was born, my OB immediately referred me to an RE and I'm grateful.
Once you have 3 losses, doctor's tend to take you seriously. If you don't become pregnant after a year of trying and you're under 35 or after six months if you're over 35, you should seek treatment.

We TTC for 9 cycles before I went to RE. I'm approaching 35 and previously had been pregnant 3 times in 9 months. After 9 months of nothing I made the switch. I had another CP the month I was consulting so it only made me feel more confident in my decision. Our insurance does not cover any IF at all. Even if my OB had given me any treatment it would be OOP. Also I was not comfortable taking meds for IF without monitoring and my OB doesn't monitor anything.

2IF does not always equal 3IF...Surprise!
For Tricare your OB or PCM will have to refer you to an RE. For me I also have an PCOS Dx so I was seeing an OB who said I needed to see an RE she faxed something to my PCM and they put in referral. You will need to see where the closet RE in your area is that takes Tricare. I know for me when I was looking at first the nearest one was over 1hr away but so worth it.

I went to see a RE after my 2nd loss. I had my 3rd loss while in the care of my RE and the following cycle became pg w/ my son. I went back to see him after my 4th loss this March and have since switched and seeing a reproductive immunologist at SIRM. He has diagnosed me w/ MTHFR. And we are waiting for more testing (hormonal and immune), due to insurance reasons we are waiting until Sept 1st. Anyways I just recommend doing your research on whoever you "have" to see according to Tricare rules. My first RE was by the book and didn't believe in a lot of "possible" diagnosis. Have you already had RPL panel by your Ob? Or other testing? GL!

I'm nearing 37...so after 6 months of TTC I called my OB to have Day 3 bloodwork done...it was thru that with a borderline FSH level that they referred me to a RE (although the RE said that my levels were considered normal by their standards)...but because we'd been TTC for 6 months and my mom and her mom both went thru menopause around age 42...that I began treatment.
As soon as humanly possible. I went to a RE the first time. Then this time I thought "eh I know the drill I can go to the OB". Wrong! There are specialists for a reason. I told my husband it was like getting and eye test at your GP. Sure he can do it, but if you think you need contacts go to an ophthalmologist. Not the best analogy but you probably see what I'm trying to say.
