Yes, I am! So is a good friend of mine who just got a BFP. We were pregnancy buddies with #1 (due a week apart) so I am hoping that's good karma for me this cycle. :)

    Me! :)

DD is almost 15 months and we're still BFing twice a day.  We've been TTC #2 for almost 6 months now with no luck.  My cycles still aren't regular, so we have a plan for gradually weaning as time passes with no BFP.

How old is your LO and how long have you been trying?

I am. That's why we're more "not preventing" than "trying" at this point. I haven't gotten AF back yet.

This for us, too!  I'm hoping that AF will return before I wean DD, but I guess we'll see :)

  • I am too. I think AF returned about 2 weeks ago.  I had a +OPK, then 3-4 days later spotting and I guess seemed like AF but it was soooooo light, I'm still not sure.  I counted it as yes and started temping better.

I was hoping not to wean all together but I'm not sure how regular my body will be if I don't wean. We'll see...

  • thanks for responding ladies!!!

My LO is 14 months old and she is a stinker! Meaning, she is not wanting to wean AT ALL... We really want another baby.. sooner rather than later for age reasons etc... but we are having issues. My period returned in December and have been hoping ot be PG soon after. We got pregnant in February and miscarried in March.. Then we got pregnant again this month... turned out to be a chemical pregnancy  :(

After our first miscarriage, I decided to start charting and see what was going on with my body... This last cycle my luteal phase was only 9 days... :? I'm worried that BF is not working for the TTC ... but at the same time I don't want to upset DD... TTC or not, I am really ready just to get down to a couple of feedings a day.. Any tips?! Have any of you noticed any issues with your luteal phases?

  • i randomly started temping and taking OPK's with no AF, got a +OPK and then who knows if i actually O'd or not b/c if i did my LP was like 3 days, lol.

this month i've had no +OPK, and I thought I missed my surge, but then i dipped again. So I guess I haven't O'd yet. Here's my chart

as for weaning, we're down to 2 a day. He get's a bottle of BM during the day, but I've way over pumped, so we're finishing out the freezer stash and mixing with whole milk.  The drop from 4 to 3 was really easy.  I think dropping his bottle will be too.  I **think** his night feeding will go before his morning. Dropping my last two feeding will be hard, I don't see him giving those up easily. But after he hits a year I plan on it.

    Sorry for your losses!

I've only been charting for two cycles so I can't really comment on what my luteal phase is like, but honestly DD still nurses a LOT and I think what affects my charting more than that is just the fact that she also still wakes up a lot at night.  My sleep patterns are as erratic as my chart.  :)  However, I got AF back when she was only 6 months old, so I've had some time for things to regulate.

    Good luck to everyone!

So far I've ovulated three times and my luteal phases have been 3 days, 9 days, and 9 days---obviously not where they should be, but I'm hoping they start getting longer.

It was tough for me to drop DD's mid-afternoon nursing.   Instead of just trying to switch and give her a cup with milk, I changed our routine so everything about that snack-time felt new.  That helped and seemed to distract her from the missing boobs!

That is me exactly...my chart is bizarre. I'm sure it's b/c my DD nurses a whole lot too.. .she never even took a bottle, so that has hindered the ability to reduce feedings.. And she definitely waskes up A LOT at night - drives me crazy. I thought maybe we were the only ones with this situation... good to know there are others!! I alway tell her she's lucky she's sooo cute.. lol. I'm hoping that the nursing and sleeping level out some so we can make her a sibling!

    GL to you too!!! :)

lol.. I was looking at your chart, it is bizarre too.  I know mine is for sure from nursing. Sounds like your body is trying to normalize again. it looks like you might have o'd possibly? have you tried testing more than once a day for your OPK?

Wow, your weaning seems to be going well! DD was tough b/c like I mentioned before she refused a bottle. she wouldn't even take a sippy consistently until about 10 months! Very stubborn.. lol... Mixing with regular milk is a good idea. i think at this point, I'll start trying to to substitue with regular milk now.. to see if that helps.. i think the night feedings are going to be the toughest...i guess they are for all of them!

Thank you. I guess our next LO is stubborn too and just not ready to make their arrival. but hopefully soon!! ;)

You know, maybe mine will keep getting longer too. I am going to keep on temping and hope to see a change! I am going to try and follow your example by changing the routine. That's  a great idea! If i can nip the day time feedings that would be a great start and probably help my body normalize some more too. It's the night time feedings are going to be the real bear. I don't want to traumatize her and want to make this a gradual process for sure... i am just sooo ready to minimalize the feedings and get some sleep - haha... what a concept ;)

  • Wow llsoule79, I could have written all of your posts in this thread almost identically. I am pretty much in an identical situation.  I am TTC right now also, but LO is still BF very often.  I do have my AF back, but it is irregular.  The first month I started using OPKs I never got a positive one, so I decided to start charting again.  Last month was my first month to chart again and my luteal phase was only 10ish days.  I would like it to get longer and hopefully it will once LO starts to feed less or I wean, whichever comes first.  he has never taken a bottle, so it's difficult.  I love BF him and I don't want to quit too soon.  After many months of trying, I have recently got him to take some formula in a sippy, so hopefully this will help.  I think it will be really hard to wean, because he eats so often and still wakes multiple times a night to eat. I would love some sleep :-) and most of all a sibling for LO.  I am quickly approaching 37 , so the sooner the better.

I am very sorry for your losses.  I too have had a loss and I know how difficult it is.  I have been researching and have found that many women who are still breastfeeding have short luteal phases, which in turn can lead to loss due to insufficient time for implantation...so hopefully once BF is less we will have our successful pregnancy.  Good luck.

I know just how you feel!

I was finally able to drop all of our night nursing around 11 or 12 months.  We made sure to really fill her up with food as close to bed time as possible (and of course I nursed her right before I put her in her crib).  I knew it was more of a comfort thing.  So when she'd wake up in the middle of the night, DH started going in to comfort her (lay her back down, give her pacifier back to her and stroke her head a little).  By that time she was down to one or two night nursings.

It was tough, but once she learned that she wasn't going to get to nurse, she was able to go back to sleep without help if she woke up.  I always hoped she'd start sleeping through the night on her own, but it just didn't happen and I was at the point where I was tired of getting up several times a night.  Now she sleeps from around 7:30 until 6:30 straight through.  It's WONDERFUL!  lol

  • BrandiGree... I wish none of us had to go through losses! I'm sorry for yours as well. It is such an emotional roller coaster.. not ot mention that I already feel like one with mommy hormones.. lol . It is somewhat comforting (if that is even the right word) to know that at least there is possibly a logical explanation to all of this. I was really upset about it all at first b/c I was like, what is wrong with me? What has changed from LO #1?! Once I started reading about BF and that some women had trouble sustaining pregnancies... it started to make a little more sense. I did read exactly what you did about the LP and that if you can reduce the feedings, that sometimes it can dramatically affect your cycle. I've got FX it works for us!! GL to you too! ;)

  • aw, *mooshagirl*, my DD is so the same way. Such an attachment to nursing when it comes to nap time and sleeping at night... I really don't want to wean her completely for the same reasons - she would be traumatized. If I could just get the day ones to like two times a day... and reduce the night time waking for comfort nursing... I think that would help tremendously. I definitely CANNOT wean her completely yet.. she's just too attached. I've tried to see if she would just let me rock her to sleep... but she ALWAYS wants to nurse first. I figure she will wean herself completely eventually and hopefully just reducing the waking at night will help... but i'm not quite sure how to break that either!! We've tried to have DH put her to sleep when she wakes.. but she just has a meltdown.. and I hate to make her that upset.

Have you tried taking the OPKs twice a day? I've seen on here that some girls would have missed their LH surge if they didn't sample in the evening time as well. I'm not sure that works though b/c I thought your urine had to be pretty concentrated.? I bought the Clearblue easy fertility monitor that is supposed to tst estrogen levels too... Other than that I would say maybe check your CM and temp, to see if that provides more clarity on your ovulation?

  • Wow, what an accomplishment!! I've tried the DH going in to put her back to sleep but she just has a meltdown.. I'm hoping that in the near future.. that will work. Since she is such a comfort nurser, I wish the little stinker had taken a pacifier. She rejected that right along with the bottle! For the first 9 weeks, the paci would work for helping her stay asleep. I was sooo disappointed when she decided that was no longer acceptable (funny how they do that!!)

I will say that I probably created more of a monster b/c after i went back to work and she started all of the waking.. I would eventually just put her in bed with me so I could sleep. If i didn't she would just wkae up every time I tried to lay her in the crib. So, now I go out and sit in the recliner to nurse her and  end up falling asleep... only to awake with a kink in my neck.. lol.. I'm trying to tough that out though and not bring her in the bed.. b/c at least then I have a chance to reduce the feedings. After ready your post though, I feel like it would be worth having DH keep trying .. b/c that kind of sleep just sounds heavenly!! I keep telling her, just give mommy 4 straight hrs of sleep and I can live with that for a little while and we'll shoot for 8 later.. lol so far she hasn't cooperated ;)

Not even 4 hours?!  Wow, that is rough!

Right after DD was born she had latching issues so I didn't want to use a pacifier for a while.  Then it got to be where I'd spend all day being a human pacifier.  So we broke down and bought every kind they had at Target.  lol  She's used one ever since (although only for sleeping now).

It's nice to know there are other ladies on here who are BFing and TTC.  It's hard for me not to feel guilty about slowly weaning in order to get PG again.  I'm really hoping I don't have to wean completely.

That exactly!! I had always intended on BF while pregnant until DD was ready to wean ...and it really never crossed my mine that Bf would present any issues since I have heard of A LOT of people that were able to be PG even on accident... INeedless to say I was SO hoping to do both with ease and I pray that just reducing night feedings will do the trick!!!

I so wish we had given her the pacifier at night... we gave it to her a couple of times and then stopped for a short time and then when i realized she was using me as a pacifier.. it was too late - she said hexx to the NO! BELIEVE YOU ME - this next LO will definintely get a paci at night!! LOL

Me too.  My mom got PG with me when BFing my sister (who was only 5 months old).  I laugh when I think of how we needlessly prevented for so many months.
