This has me really mad and upset right now.
We went to the park after dinner, and I sat on the bench with DD#2 and was going to watch DD#1 go down the slide. The one she went on was up and through the play structure, so it took her a minute or so to get to the top. I had my eye on her, but was talking to DD#2 so didn't see everything go down from the beginning. But what I did see: 2 bigger boys standing at the bottom of the slide, one of them throwing something up to the top where Makena was sitting, waiting to go down. It got my attention - so I walked over, as she was trying to back up, away from the slide. Turns out - the boy was throwing rocks at her while his friend watched!!!!! I basically said WTH is going on here and told Makena to come down (as she was in tears). The boys admitted to what they were doing, and I basically said shame on them for treating someone like that. I asked where their parents were, and they weren't there. Because - they were 9! And apparently so old and mature. I said that maybe their parents should be there if they can't behave themselves w/o supervision. They appologized, but it really broke my heart for my baby.
The only (sort of) good thing from this is I took it as a learning opportunity to explain to DD that the boys' behaviour was NOT acceptable, and the whole "do onto others as you would want done onto you" thing. I told her to always treat everyone with respect, no matter their age.
But seriously! She's 3! Pick on someone your own size! Or not. Period.
Re: DD was getting bullied at the park!
Good for you for handling the situation in a mature fashion. Hopefully they'll think twice before doing something like that again.
That's horrible. I can't imagine wanting to throw rocks at a baby. Thank goodness they didn't hurt her.
