Hi! My husband and I are both law school students in Jackson and are not very familiar with the area. Our OBGYN is absolutely wonderful and he delivers at both Woman's Hospital (part of the River Oaks Hospital) and at St. Dominic's. I know that St. Dominic's is a much larger hospital, but Woman's Hospital is geared towards delivering women. Does anyone have any information about either hospital? Thank you in advance!!!
I've had several friends deliver at the Woman's Hospital and didn't have any problems. I've never heard anything bad about St Dominics, but never heard of anyone delivering there.
I've had friends deliver at both places and have good experiences. The only negative I know about Women's is that they don't have an adult ICU. So if something happens, you would be transferred but baby would still be at Women's. I had a friend switch Dr. because he was set on delivering at Women's. She was a higher risk pregnancy and felt better about being at a hospital with one. That being said, I had a friend whose child stayed in the Women's NICU for a while and had a good experience with that. Hope that helps!
My dr. delivers at both of those hospitals, but I delivered both of mine at st. dominic's and loved it. I had my heart set on woman's but could only get my c-section scheduled at st. dominic's so ended up there.
I had my baby a few weeks ago at Woman's, and I would absolutely recommend it. All the nurses were so kind. It's a small hospital and my baby was a preemie in the NICU so I was able to easily get down to see him and back to my room. It is quiet at night. I prefer it over St. D.
St. D is a good hospital, but for having a baby, I liked how Woman's was smaller and geared towards women. I am going to have any future babies at Woman's.
I had all of my kiddos at Womens. I previously worked at UMMC so I naturally wanted to deliver there but, that wasn't an option for me.
I am not from MS and I am used to the larger hospitals in larger, more metropolitan areas so, Women's made me nervous with it's small size.
My singleton was born after her due date and my twins were five weeks early. Both deliveries were sections. The babies were in the NICU for two weeks. I do have to say that I liked Women's. The level of care that we all received was top notch. The NICU doctor we had was absolutely, positively wonderful!!!!
I thought it was a very quiet hospital which creeped me out but, again it's just not what I am used to. The level of care was excellent!

Women's: My best friend delivered there (c section) and everyone was wonderful. She mentioned she really loved being able to watch the father "showing" the baby to the family through a camera mounted on the ceiling of the waiting area just for that purpose. I liked being able to watch the nurses measure and bath and print the baby in the big window to the nursery. I am from a small town with a small hospital that has one 4ft wide window into the nursery there, so I don't know if the 12ft window at Women's was normal or not. Of course my friends mother is a nurse there so I also don't know if they gave her any "perks", but all-in-all it seemed like a pretty cool place. LOL, plus there is a Wendy's right across Lakeland for any hungry people waiting on the birth.
