I serious think Palin hurt him quite a bit.

Re: why do YOU think McCain lost?
1. Palin
2. His age
3. The fact that he agrees a bit too much with the current administration. Even Republicans are having financial issues in this economy.

People tied him to Bush. Not that is was very hard.
Democratic registration and voting were at an all time high.
People dislike white crusty old men. They were sticking it to the man.
Bush.
He's not a charismatic speaker.
He looks older because he was a POW and that, unfortunately, hurts his appeal.
Palin, in some cases.
Me with my littlest.
Bush and the fact that the Republican party is so far from what they've ever been.
Palin helped him as much as she hurt him - the base LOVES her and they do not like him.
Bush to a degree, the negativity and Palin.
eta: strategy (which ties in with the negativity)
Bush and Palin.
I think people are tired of the results of the last 8 years and want a change.
It's a mixed bag IMO. The economy, Bush, the current state of the republican party and Palin. I will say that Palin propably appealed to the far right - but did not appeal to me, who is more in the middle.
1. Bush
2. I think he cam accross jittery when the econmony (and his poll #s) started to fail
3. public mockery of Sarah Palin
"If he had stayed the same McCain that ran in 2000, he might've gotten my vote"
My husband said the same thing and the last republican he supported was reagan. he said in the last 8 years he really followed in bush's footsteps and changed his ways. Mccain 2000 was a much better politician. Maybe he thought that was the way to get elected, but it wasn't.
Ditto! And the fact that he couldn't come right out and disagree with Bush, so he tried to make himself sound like he wasn't a Republican. I don't think anyone fell for it.
