We're in Toledo (well, Whitehouse). My MW (at a birth center) says that she likes to use St. V's as a backup because of their low intervention rate and low c-section rate. According to her, they are the most natural-friendly hospital in the area and they are very respectful of your wishes (if there are no complications). That's all I know. HTH!
I live in MI, but am delivering at St. V's (my ob delivers there or Bay Park) and I had to have an NST there a few weeks ago. Friendly nursing staff, the rooms were nice, and it had a nice feel to it. I also took a tour, the post partum rooms are very nice. The nursery was pretty cool...there were no babies in it when I went. I delivered at Toledo Hospital with DS#1, and St. V's is way nicer compared to it!
I just delivered there on May 10 prematurely. The nurses were great and very friendly. My baby is still there in the NICU and I am so grateful we delivered there as we needed the NICU. It would have been very scary to have my son lifeflighted over from another hospital that didn't have the specialized care he needed. I also had a c section and it went great! I am very happy with my choice in delivering here! Good luck!

Thank you for posting this. Glad your LO seems to be doing well and you are very happy with them. Our baby will need to be in the NICU once it is born, but hopefully only for a short time.
I'll be delivering at V's! I've spent a lot of time on L&D there, because I'm a medical student. The nurses and residents are great!! They're the ones who will be checking in on you most of the time during labor.
A little bit of a warning though - a lot of patients who deliver there are young, inner city moms, and they tend to bring 8-10 friends/family members to hang around the hospital for hours and hours while they're in labor. There isn't much of a waiting room to speak of on the 7th floor, so they kinda wander around when not in the patient's room. For this reason (the area by the elevators being crowded by sometimes-obnoxious people) we'll be having most of our family members stay home until after the birth!
Cafeteria closes at 7 PM, but the yummy Starbucks coffee shop opens from 10:30 PM -1:30 AM (I think).
Jess & Adam, married 2009, precious Audrey born in 2011. BFP 1/6/13, 6-wk MMC discovered at 9 wks 2/11/13. D&C 2/18/13, second D&C 4/23/13 for retained placenta. BFP 8/24/13!! EDD 5/1/14, delivered healthy and sweet Zoey Leanne on 5/5/14 by repeat c-section.

Just an fyi - once your baby is in the NICU there, you and your SO will be the only ones who can see lo as they have very strict policies on visitors. The NICU is completely enclosed and there isn't a viewing area. It stinks that none of our family/friends have been able to see DS yet but the policy is there to reduce exposure to viruses.
As for PP, I did not have any issues with people wandering the floor or crowding the waiting area. However this is probably just dependent on when you deliver.
Good luck! I hope your baby is healthy and does not need to be in the NICU for long!
I'm not delivering at St. V's, but I'm completely amazed at how many of us there are around this area! I didn't know there was someone in Temperance on this board!
ANYWAY- Everyone I've known that has delivered at St. V's is really impressed with them. They are very pro "anti-intervention" and are great with NICU babies! My cousin should be delivering there this week (she's due June 4th!)
Wow this post was right on time! I work at St. V's and took the tour today! Its my back up hospital just in case I go into labor while at work. I plan to deliver at Flower (insurance covers Flower). However I've heard great things about St. V's (lol) and the maternity ward was extremely nice.
*** Why haven't we made the Toledo Moms board active...once the babies are born we should really start posting there. Hopefully form a mommy group?***
I don't live in Toledo anymore, however I went to UT! Was actually a dancing rock-ette Anyway...Ive been to St. V's volunteering and the hospital seems to be awesome. Good luck
