Thoughts? Opinions?
I typically take LO on a walk every day - about 25 minutes and it's 50% shaded. It's starting to get hot and it makes me nervous about taking her. We have a BOB, so it has a really nice shade where only her feeet show through (time to bust out the sunscreen!).
Do you plan on taking LO outside all summer?
Re: When is it too hot to take LO for walks?
I plan to take her out for short periods all summer, but the hotter it is, the shorter the period. I think I read somewhere that if it's very hot outside, you shouldn't have the baby out for more than an hour at a time because of the danger of heat stroke. I'm thinking I'd keep that to 30 minutes or less unless she was in the pool or something and kept cool that way (and was shaded somehow).
It was high 80's yesterday & we were out at a park w/ a small farm for about 3.5 hrs.
DS stayed in his stroller with the visor covering him most of the time & we spent about an hour on a blanket under a tree. We also took about a 15 minute break in an a/c'ed visitor center thingy.
DS had his sunscreen on & he drank some water.
We were out for a while, but were reasonable about protecting him from the heat & sun.

Huh. Good question. It's not generally something you think of in WI.
We were outside yesterday (80 and sunny) for an hour at a stretch, with breaks indoors to cool off and nurse. When he was outside he was always in the shade, either in his PnP or on a blanket. Yesterday evening I gave him a lukewarm bath, too. He enjoyed that.
ETA: I guess I'll use the same rule of thumb I use for my black dogs - extended outdoor activity will be limited, generally in the cooler hours (morning or evening), and sensible precautions taken.
