XP: IVF Take 2

Ack!  I'm getting nervous!  My RE's office just emailed that they are getting ready to order my meds for round 2.  I don't need anything but Lupron right this minute but it looks like we're using Menopur and Gonal F this round (we used Menopur, Follistim and Ganirelix last time).  Gonal F is a little cheaper than Follistim, correct??  Why am I so nervous?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!

Our Journey to Brenden

  • Good luck!!

Try not to be nervous! I'm nervous, too, but there's NO REASON this won't work out. Hopefully you'll be celebrating a BFP in a few weeks! Try to stay positive. I'm trying to treat it as a good thing to be doing #2. We have more information now and that's got to help, right? Good luck with #2. Let me know if you need to talk!

I really do understand exactly how you feel. I keep having thoughts that something is just WRONG with me. My eggs suck. So many get pregnant on IVF #1, but I didn't, so that must mean I'm broken. It's never going to work. I think about that stuff all the time. But logically, I know that a lot of eggs simply aren't viable.. in any woman. Sometimes it's just luck of the draw which ones are picked. Even perfect looking embryos can have problems, and it doesn't mean that you won't pick the "right" ones this time.

I know it's SO hard not to get down and disappointed and be afraid you're throwing money away and stuff. But it really can work on #2 or #3 or more. There are so many factors and you might have a completely different cycle this time. I know it's hard, but try to be excited. You still have a GREAT shot at taking home a baby this time. That's what I keep telling myself.

  • Lots of luck!

And yes, Gonal F is cheaper.  According to my doctor they do the same thing so she sees no reason why we can't have the cheaper med.

  • Thanks, ladies!! I really am trying to be positive ... just super nervous this time around.  Trying to do everything right so to speak.

Hootie .. not sure on the lupron.  I emailed my nurse a week or so ago about it and she said they had a couple of vials (I'll only need one) so even if I can't get it, I can take a vial from them and then replace it when it becomes available.

Thats great news - we were discussing this at my office support group a week or so ago.  Some of the ladies were stressed about finding lupron and were yet to be successful - its in high demand!  GL!

  • Yeah, I was worried.  My RE looked at me like I was growing horns when I mentioned it to him 2 weeks ago.  Then when I saw a post here I emailed my nurse.  She reassured me that they have it so I'm okay and said she'd check with Apothecary on availability.  She's calling in my order tomorrow so we'll see what they say.

    Good luck, KaliChick!!

As for pricing, Gonal-F and Follistim are virtually the same price but at different pharmacies (at least that has been my experience).  If you are OOP, Gonal-F is cheapest at Freedom Fertility Pharmacy (at least of the big, within the USA, pharmacies).  Follistim is priced better at some of the other pharmacies, like The Apothecary Shop.  My RE lets me use them interchangebly.  So, if I can get donated meds, I can ask for either or both medications.

I know how you are feeling with the doubts and not being as hopeful as you were originally, but it can happen for you.  It happens for a bunch of ladies that don't have successful IVF #1s.  Just look at all of the recent IVF #3 successes on this board!!
