Birthing Centers in LI?

Hi,

I live in Queens but my OB/GYN is in Long Island (which is only 15mins away by car)  the more I read about birthing centers the more I'd like to check them out and see if I'd like to give birth there.

Google hasn't turned up much in the way of birthing centers in LI but I was sure there was at least one? Has anyone here given birth in one or knows of one, any info at all would be great.

  • No birthing centers on LI, sorry..... Nassau University Medical Center has a waterbirth tub, so you might check that out. Honestly, most of the hospitals on LI are not very natural childbrith friendly, it's a shame.

I am planning my birth at Nassau University Medical center with a midwife because I want a water birth but I know there is a birthing center in Brooklyn if you can get there. google it and it should come up for you.

My midwife told me that NUMC got the funding and plans to build one as an offshoot of the hospital, but it is years away.

You need to talk to your ob/gyn about what you want for your birth. I found out at 7 months that mine would only do a high intervention birth at the hospital and that her group had a high c-section rate. I switched to my current midwife who is awesome and had a natural birth at NUMC.
