Eco-Friendly Family

Anyone have any experience w/peafowl?

This is random (sort of), but I'm really considering getting a few peafowl as very eco friendly insect control around our property.  I know they can be a bit loud, which doesn't bother me plus neighbors are quite far away (over 1.5mi or so). Has anyone else had any experience with them?  I've been doing a bit of online reading about them, but I'm looking for someone that's actually been around them to get their thoughts.  TIA!

  • They can be very loud!  And their loud sounds like someone screaming.  They do help with insect control and they will often alert you if someone or something approaches that they do not know.  I would suggest getting some chickens to go along with them if you are going to let them free range as peafowl can be flighty (run away) but chickens are homebodies and if raised together they seem to stick around because the chickens dont want to leave.

  • I love the look of the peafowl but they are way to expensive for me to buy considering how easy it is for a bird to die we got an assortment of chickens, turkeys and ducks that way when a few get "lost" it's not so bad
