Ectopic symptoms/timing ?

Hello all - I am sure I am just being paranoid (or I hope so).  I'm 7w 4 days, I go to my first dr's appointment in a week.  For about a week now, I've been feeling twinges/cramps on my right side, kind of like what I feel sometimes right before ovulating.  They are not horrible by any means, but I definitely notice them, and it's pretty much in the same spot, not moving around.

I've read stuff about it being "round ligament pain," related to expansion to make room for baby, etc., but am also freaking myself out that it's an ectopic pregnancy.  Does anyone know the timing of when symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy kick in, what it feels like? And when they say "cramping," is it mild, or doubled-over-in-pain severe?

I am traveling all this week, and it's killing me that I can't see my doctor for another week!

Re: Ectopic symptoms/timing ?

  • I'm having something similar.  I have twinges on my right side in the same place most of the day.  I think that's where the baby's implanting (not medical advice, my own active imagination).  I asked my dad, he's a family physician, and he said that is totally fine and normal.

  • I am also having similar symptoms on my right side.  I am 5 weeks.  I've heard it both ways: that's too early for round ligament paing or ectopic and no it's not.    I also know there is a type of cyst that is very common within the first few weeks of pregnancy--corpus luteum. The only consistent advice I found is: When it doubt, play it safe and call your Dr.

I get them on my left side, and once in awhile on my right side. I was concerned about etopic as well. I asked my doctor about it at 10 weeks, and she said that it is most likely a cyst on my ovary as they are common during pregnancy because they are working overtime to produce hormones (corpeous luteum I believe?)

I've even sneezed or coughed wrong a few times and it's hurt me, and others on here have had the same.

She said to go to the hospitol if  I start bleeding or the cramping becomes extremely severe.

That article is great - thank you!  The description of it makes me feel much better - I still won't know for sure till I get to the dr., but that puts me a little more at ease that this is likely a totally normal thing.

I had an ectopic pregnancy, and it did not feel like you are describing. The pain was intolerable, and I could not get up off the floor. There are also other symptoms of an ectopic that go along with pain: spotting or bleeding, extreme dizziness, and sometimes pain that radiates up into your shoulders.

I've been feeling pulling and twinging since I was 6 weeks with this pregnancy, and everything is normal. GL!
