I'm struggling, my fiance and I are expecting our first baby - due in December - and we currently live in a one bedroom home. I moved into his bachelor pad... We're thinking about finishing the basement - but I'm finding it hard to think that we would be having our baby in the basement while we sleep upstairs? My family has all told me that we should move our bedroom downstairs - but that really doesn't interest me either. We have an office that is completely furnished and open to the great room - my parents are telling me I should consider turning that into the nursery until the baby can be left downstairs. Finishing the basement is an expensive project (it will need to be done at some point). But I'm afraid that if we don't do it soon - that I will be up with the baby at all hours - when the baby is a couple months old and still sleeping in our room.
Has anyone kept their baby in their rooms for longer than a couple to four months? Was it a hard transition? Were you up every move they made? Could anyone give me some unsolicited advice?

I agree with pp that having a newborn down stairs is not going to ideal. I actually had dd in with us in the bassinett until she was about 3 months and then in the pack and play bassinett for longer. I couldn't have her so far away (and the bedrooms were on the same floor!).
I would say take the office and convert that to the babies room. I am guessing you own the house? I would build a wall and a door to. It doesn't cost much to put one in.
Good luck.........Unless you want to move downstairs to the basement along with your lo. I would put up with it just to be near my lo.
