gas remedies?

for a few days now, about 10-20 mins after a feeding (I BF) DD starts screaming, I'm pretty sure it's gas, she pulls her legs up to her tummy. Any remedies? I try doing the bicycle, I rub her tummy, I rock her, I lay her on her tummy, she just cries and cries. I eat a pretty bland diet, I don't know what else to do. Suggestions?? TIA! (she's 3 weeks old)

  • gas drops might help.

for little man we always patted his back while he was on his tummy

  • There is Mylicon but that never did anything for us.  I agree with a pp that it might be reflux since that was how it turned out in our case.  Maggie never was a spitter so I thought it couldn;t be reflux but as the weeks went by she got progressively fussier on the bottle - BM or FF didn't matter.  She cried ALOT but we thought that was normal baby crying.  By 5.5 weeks I knew it wasn't normal and my pedi prescribed baby Zantac - it was like a miracle - she slept better and ate without fussing - it was like someone gave me a new baby.
  • It's hard to tell if it's reflux this early.  Be sure to keep track of how often this happens, that way if you start to suspect reflux you can share details with her pediatrician that may help diagnose it.

For now, I'll just suggest what we used to do for regular gas, we used to hold DD lengthwise in one arm, with her facing down to the floor, her head towards the crook of your arm, tummy down on your forearm, and bounce a little.  It puts firm pressure on her tummy.  I'm having a hard time describing this "hold" - I learned it from a nurse in my new mommy class... (running to Google images to see if I can find a picture...) - I can't find any good pictures of what I'm talking about.  Sorry!

  • Ditto on the hold PP describes.  It sounds weird and like you'll just drop the baby, but it works really well.  This baby is bigger, but you get the general idea:  https://www.funphamily.com/photoalbum/month5/images/7623_football.jpg

  • If you have an exercise ball at home - sit on the ball and bounce a bit with the baby in your arms. This usually worked for Sydney. Also the mylicon drops also helped.

Karen, love your idea, I miss my exercise ball, so this will be a great way to use it!
