Babies: 6 - 9 Months

if someone got something for you off your registry ...

Would you be annoyed? My husband's cousin is having a baby in August and is having a shower on Sunday ... I want to give her a sling or nursing cover or something like that but they're not on her registry (she's registered at Walmart). What say you bumpies?

  • I think 90% of things I got were not on my registry. I think it is okay, especially if it's something that is useful.

If I get an item that someone didn't register for I make sure it's because they know it was one of my favorite items with W. I also make sure I get it from a place that has a good return policy and I make sure to include a gift receipt.

Some of the best items we got for W were items we didn't register for. I wasn't annoyed one bit. If I really didn't want it I returned it.

  • Many people did that for me. I didn't mind; they were all  good gifts. But I'd make sure it's returnable and include a gift receipt.

  • Nope. I got gifts that were both on and off of my registry.

Also, (correct me if I'm wrong) Walmart tends to not carry things like that. When I was BFing/EPing I got nursing items from BRU.

  • I actually really liked the majority of stuff that people got me that wasn't on my registry. I had very little idea of what the heck I was doing when I registered and people gave me some very much-needed and cool stuff that wasn't on there. Just make sure to include a gift receipt, or pair it with something that is on her registry.

I think it's fine, especially since you are a mom of 3 and she is (I'm assuming) a first-timer.  Obviously you have been there done that and know of some good products.  I think people only get annoyed if they get a bunch of wrong size/season clothes or something equally useless.  I had to buy all that kinda stuff (cover, sling, etc.) on my own since I didn't know about them (or didn't know I would need them until after Little Miss arrived.

    Have fun at the shower!

  • That's a great point about the gift receipt! Do they sell slings at BRU? I want one like the seven slings style, KWIM?

Exactly this. I'd rather a gift with thought or something that someone thought was great when they had a baby.

Yes, they should have some kind of pouch sling. If she's a bigger girl I have a seven sling I'll mail to you (it would be good for a size 14-18).

Yeah they don't, I think she's registered somewhere else too but its not a baby store, lime Penny's or something.

She's a freaking twig! Her NN is "Minnie"... thanks for the offer though! There's a store on Etsy I like to buy slings from but I guess BRU would probably be better for returns.

  • As long as it's useful I would be fine with it. I'd definately make sure to include the receipt in case she gets another one though and wants to return.

  • I think you're safe as long as you throw in a gift receipt, just in case.

I can totally see both sides here. As someone who had two showers thrown for me, I wish more people had shopped off of my registry because I ended up with a lot of duplicates and things I just didn't need. That's not to say I didn't appreciate the gifts (because I totally did) but I didn't register for certain things for a reason, KWIM? SIL had bought me a great diaper bag before I had my shower so I didn't register for one, and yet someone else chose to get me a different one, and even told me "I thought you might have forgotten to register for a diaper bag because it wasn't on your registry." Strange, I know. I also ended up with over eighty baby washcloths. No joke.

I love my carrier so much that I would totally want to buy it as everyone's baby shower gift but maybe she already has one? Gift receipts are your friend. I'm rambling now. Time for bed.

  • I don't see any on BRU's site but Walmart has some that look like the seven slings.

OK, so that's not actually through walmart. Target has some too.

  • I only got a few things off my registry and I was happy with all my gifts. If your worried about it just make sure you give her the gift receipt.

  • Def include a gift receipt so she can return it if she wants to.

  • No, just put a gift receipt in with it. NBD.

  • I usually chose something (or things depending on price) from the registry then include something else that I know will be useful. Maybe she just doesn't know about those things.

Definitely include a gift receipt though!
