Letter to the no-show nanny - what do you think?

"I kept thinking that I would come up with something better to say, but I thought about it all weekend and all I can come up with is how disappointed I am in you.  You really didn't seem like the kind of person to not call or show up.  We had plenty of warning signs, I guess, but we really gave you the benefit of the doubt.  I wanted to believe it was just your life circumstances that were a little unstable right now, not that you were a flaky person and... well, I've just never been burned like this before.  I think I'm still in shock.
It makes me so sad to think how Quinn warmed up to you and enjoyed being with you so much - all the effort on your part that you put into that relationship only to walk away without so much as a warning.  My child deserves so much more than that.  He deserves security and stability.  It is sad that you were not a person who could offer that to him and it's sad that we made the mistake of thinking you were.
Simon would like his computer back.  If you don't return it, technically you will have stolen it.  You can leave it on the front porch.  We have found another nanny and she will be staying at our house while we're gone.  I'm still really disappointed that it didn't work out with you and I'm disappointed that you didn't choose the mature and responsible way out and just talk to us about it if you didn't want to continue to work for us.
I hope you have the good sense not to hurt another family like this. "

Should I send it?

Oh, and the computer is referencing a laptop DH lent her on Thursday.  It was old and probably only worth $50, but still.  She knew it was a loaner.  We told  her we'd buy her one off ebay in a few months as a bonus.

I'm just really annoyed and I feel like I need closure.  Not that I expect her to write back or to return the computer, but I really want her to feel ashamed of what she did.  Is that wrong?

  • No, I don't feel like any of it is wrong of you.  I would be super pissed, and she certainly shouldn't keep your computer even if it's only worth $1.

  • Send it. And she absolutely needs to return the computer.
  • wow, as a mother and a soon to be day care provider I cannot imagine doing this/having this done to me. I am so sorry, Satreece! Especially after you lent her a laptop and were nice enough to offer buying her another!!!!!!!!!!  O.M.G.  I want her to feel bad too! I would send this. If she is any kind of person I'd think she'd feel awful and at least return the laptop.

Oy, and she knows you're going to be out of town?  I guess I would send it.  So sorry you have to deal with this!

Not my style, but if it makes you feel better, then send it. (I'd probably just send a short and sweet note. If she cared, a lecture would help, but obviously she doesn't care. I'd probably send something like "We are really disappointed that you let our family down. Your behavior was unprofessional and it was just laziness to not call. DS really liked you, and now he's sad.  Please leave the computer on the front step or with our new nanny (who will be home)  by Tuesday or we'll report it stolen.")
