Does anyone freeze soup in plastic bags?

I know that may be blasephemous on here but I need to know!  I've always used plastic or glass bowls but my freezer is SOOO  full and I have a huge pot of soup to freeze.  I'm also low on my normal "soup size" bowls.

I've never frozen soup in baggies before... I have Ziploc Evolve quart size bags, Ziploc snack size bags and Presto brand gallon size.  This soup is probably my favorite soup ever so I don't want to waste a drop.... what to do??

  • I don't have enough freezer container so I do.  Just use a freezer bag, spoon soup in, and lay flat to freeze.

  • laying flat to freeze might present a problem too... I don' tknow why I forgot about that... ugh!  I might have to stick it all in the fridge until tomorrow, when we'll make some extra space in the freezer...

This.  Laying flat to freeze, it makes it so you can fit soooooooo much more in the freezer!

  • I do it all the time and you don't have to lay it flat to freeze it, that just makes it a nice flat little package. If you stand it up on it's bottom it will still freeze just fine, it just isn't as neat and easy to store it but it will store just fine anyway. I used to freeze mine in gallon containers but I'd probably only fill them halfway and froze them on their ends. Then I'd stack them up like bricks. It worked better in my freezer that way then flat.

  • I always freeze in bags since I don't have enough room the other way.  I use the evolve bags too and lay it on a sheet pan to freeze.  Works very well!
