My SIL, Sgt. First Class Casey Ann K., is currently based in Germany (Army) but has made 2 tours of Afghanistan. We are fortunate that she is not a "true" Memorial Day honoree, and I hope she never becomes one.
If you have someone you would like to honor/remember, feel free to post it here.
Note: This is not a place to voice opinions about the war. Memorial Day is NOT about that. It's about honoring those that have fought and died for our country. So please keep this friendly and respectful.
Re: Memorial Day Honorees
I'd like to honor Sgt. Albert R. He was great uncle, he passed away in December at the age of 95. He served with the both the 82nd and the 101st Airborne.
Love!
I'd like to honor my brother - Lt. Steve Charles B. Blessed to have such an awesome brother. He just got his wings a week ago! Headed to England after he finishes his specialized training this year.
I am, of course, proud and thankful for all our soldiers, past, present, and future.I'm an Army Wife myself, but come from a line of Navy/Air Force, and my husband has a few Marines in his background.
But today I'd like to honor SSG John J. Cleaver, whom we lost in an IED attack in Afghanistan in 2009, during my husbands' first Deployment. He was a good soldier... but even better: he was a wonderful man, and a great friend to many. I've been praying for his parents, as they are all from Joplin, MO, and just lost their home in the tornado that swept through there this past week.
I would like to honor one of DH's fraternity brothers, Chief Warrant Officer Christopher R. T who tragically died last Thursday from injuries he sustained in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan. He only had three more weeks of service before permanently returning back home to his wife where he would have celebrated their first anniversary and become a proud father to his baby that she is currently pregnant with. May God rest his soul in peace and help his family though this difficult time. Thank you Chris for giving the ultimate sacrifice.

my DH who is currently serving in Afghanistan. He has been gone since December and will be gone until December/January. He does get two weeks off for R&R and will be able to see our new daughter
I would like to remember my grandpa Joe Lauricella who died 2 years ago this month and all of his brothers. They all served in WWII. And also army medic DJ Stelmat who was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq three years ago.
I would like to honor my cousins Eddy and Richard. Eddy has been deployed 3 times and came home safe every time. Richard has been 1 time and made it home safe.

A great friend of mine Lyndon Anson Marcus Jr gave his life for our freedom in May 2004 in Iraq. He was one of my brothers best friends and was like an adopted brother to our family. He has since had a hotel at Fort Irwin named after him.

There is only one moment in my life I truly regret and that is the last time Lyndon was at my parents house I got there 10 minuets after he left. I would give anything to have left my house 10 minuets earlier to have gotten to see him one last time.
