Citronella Candles

Can we be around them?  Anyone know?

Re: Citronella Candles

  • I was wondering this myself, and did some Google research.  As far as I could tell, the citronella candles are fine as long as you don't eat them.  :-)

  • I hope so, because I LOVE the way they smell right now. And I'm not doing bug spray because I don't know if it will affect me since it is applied to the skin and because the smell makes me sick haha

  • I was just around two candles for about an hour...I am a worry wort but I hate not knowing for sure if something is safe!  Everything I found online said it was fine, but I didn't really find anything "medical".
  • I avoided the bug spray this weekend, and surrounded myself with citronella candles, but I have to say--they didn't do a darn thing, and now I'm a scratching like crazy.

I'm going to look for one of those little things you clip on you clothes.  Maybe it's a miracle.

I've heard the clip on things are terrible, too. The best thing that works in bug spray, and, well, that's not really an option!

I've heard that rubbing "bounce" sheets (the ones your stick on the dryer) on yourself helps keep the mosquitos away. Also vineagar and water, or Avon Skin so Soft mixed with water both work as an alternative to nasty chemical bug sprays.

  • Repel makes a plant based bug spray that's Lemon Eucalyptus that I think is supposed to be safe.  I haven't tried it yet, but I found it in the camping dept. at Target.
