For the ladies who knew about the shark hat....this picture is for you.

After being 4 days overdue I was trying everything to get this little boy out but nothing was working. Saturday night at 11:45pm my water broke, but there was no gush, it felt like I peed my pants but after a little while it was too much to ignore and I knew my water had broke. We headed to the hospital after about an hour and when we got to L&D the triage desk was bussyyy. I was the only woman who was there not in a wheelchair because I wasn't having any contractions yet. I felt horrible for the other women because they were all obviously in pain and everyones babies felt like coming on the night of "the rapture" so I let a few ladies go ahead of me in the line of getting a bed since I was still very able to walk around without help.
Finally after about 2 hours I got a bed and then we waited another 4 hours waiting for the contractions to come. But they didn't. After confirming that my water did break they got a laboring room ready for me and around 7:30am on sunday they moved me. That's when my "natural med free birth" got turned all upside down.
They had to give me pitocin to jumpstart my labor and I went from having absolutely no contractions to having them 3 to 2.5 minutes apart. However I wasn't dilating. I was stuck at 3cm. I was already 2cm when I walked in the door and had been for 2 weeks already. They turned up the pit and I was having them 2 minutes apart until finally I couldn't take the pain anymore and caved into the nubain. Heaven. It was enough for me to breathe better and relax enough for my body to dilate. I got up to a 4.5-5cm point and the nubain wore off but the contractions were unbearable and I went for the epidural. I NEVER wanted the epi. I hate needles, getting my IV in was hard enough to deal with (blood was shooting everywhere), but I couldn't see myself being able to do it.
Relief. Although I immediately I thought I was going to poop everywhere so I told my family they had to leave the room since I was sure I was going to embarrass myself. Not 5 minutes after they walked out the door (literally 20 minutes after getting the epidural) I was pushing. And my doctor wasn't there. I just kept telling the nurses "I am pooping!" but they kept assuring me that I wasn't and it was the babies head. I almost died. I went from a 4.5cm-5cm to a 10cm and had the baby out in less than 45 minutes. In 2 contractions, and 3 pushes he was out. He did have the cord wrapped around his neck once but he was okay. He was 7lbs 3oz and 21 inches long. Funny thing is, they told me he was going to be "so tiny" and if I was lucky he would be 6lbs. Yah....he was definitely bigger. He is so beautiful and I love being a mom. I can't imagine what my life would be right now without him.
The weirdest part about everything is I already have my sex drive back and totally wish 6 weeks was up but I don't want my baby to get bigger!!!

Mama & Baby.

At less than 1 day old he was holding his head up for almost a minute. It was crazy!

Re: Jack is here :) pip
Congrats!!! He's adorable and I love the shark hat!
I was kinda the same way-my water broke, but I wasn't really contracting or dilating. They gave me Pit and then the contractions were HORRIBLE but I still wasn't dilating anymore. Once I get the epi and could relax, I dilated quickly. Good stuff.
The shark hat is adorable on him. Congrats on your not so tiny baby!
