FTMs How much do you get done in a day?

I know the second-time moms are amazing and I don't even want to try comparing myself to them, but how much are first-time moms getting done in an average day? And how old is your baby?

At 9 days old, I don't feel like I get much done- I make DH his lunch, unload and reload the dishwasher, throw in a load or two of laundry most days, and make dinner. My mother thinks I'm coddling myself (after she gave birth she apparently went right back to normal) so I'm curious what others   are getting done.

You're doing all of that at 9 days postpartum?  You're a rock star.

  • LO is a month old now, so I think I am getting better at getting things done. But in the beginning, I would try to accomplish one or two big things per day. That could be laundry, dishes, grocery shopping, etc. My house was a complete disaster for about 3 weeks, and only now are we starting to get back to normal.

I do not get very much done in a day right now and I try not to stress myself out. The house will get cleaned when I get around to it.
  • I'm not getting much done myself. My mom is here so she's been a great help in doing laundry and dishes done. I got out and grocery shopped and picked up a couple baby items I realized I lacked. But on a daily basis I'm just focusing on showering and picking up clutter/trash throughout the day. I'll attempt to do more once my mom is gone.

  • Audrey is over 3 weeks old. My days pretty much start around 11am I play on facebook and The Bump for a while, then I watch tv, and we go to bed. I pretty much do absolutely nothing. I think I have done 2 loads of laundry and unloaded the dishwasher once in the past 3 weeks.

  • A couple of loads of laundry and I cook dinner. Thats about it, I always try to take a nap sometime during the day but it never works out. Sad
  • Zoe is 8 days old.  I usually do one semi-big thing a day, like sort and pack up hand-me-down clothes or pick up some area of the house (still recovering from remodeling) and then a little bit of the day to day stuff like laundry, dishes, etc.  I was stressing out about the house, but my mom and a couple friends have helped clean and organize.  My house hasn't been this clean since we started the major remodel eight months ago.  I love it!

We've had one visitor pretty much every day, but usually not more than one.  We did newborn photos on Friday, which was great but exhausting and definitely the biggest thing I've tried to accomplish.  I have a chiro appointment tomorrow, which will be my first outing by myself with her.  I'm intimidated but am SO looking forward to walking without so much pain (hopefully).

K is almost two months old and i still feel like i'm not doing anything.

I make an effort to pick up the house before I go to bed everyday, I like to start my day with the house in order. DH makes most meals. I do laundry.

I haven't cleaned since she's born (we did hire a lady when she was about 3 weeks) so while the house might look neat, it's pretty dirty.

  • You are all putting me to shame. LO doesn't sleep well at night and I am so tired during the day, and he is so fussy between naps unless he is being held that I am lucky if I get a shower. Laundry is easy enough with him in one arm, but folding is a different story. Plus I am pumping every 4 hours. I get more done once DH is home from work and takes him for an hour or two. DH is in charge of supper for now. At least I have mastered typing with one hand!

  • Not a whole lot.   I am so tired. in the past week and a half I've done some laundry, unpacked the dishwasher a couple of times.   I have been meaning to vacuum, but by time I get the energy to pick up everything off the floor and get the vacuum out, LO is awake again and needs to eat.

We are also moving in 3 weeks, so DH has been sleeping in the spare room so he is well rested and can function for work and to do all the packing/moving tasks and cook dinner.

I really wish I lived closer to my family right now.   I'd love for someone to stop by to offer to help out.

  • If I am wearing Elsie I'm able to get laundry, dishes, and cooking done. If she is not in the mood to be in the moby/bjorn or extra needy I don't accomplish much. It all depends on how amused I can keep LO.

  • Reese is so easy and mellow that I am actually am able to get things done. Right now, my morning routine is I get out of bed before DH goes to work and make breakfast. I usually do some laundry during the day and load the dishwasher. I also shower, blow dry my hair and rest. We have an extremely heavy vacuum that my DH doesn't want me lifting yet, so that is the extent of my household chores. Right now, we have so many leftovers from my parents and my mother in law--that I haven't had to think about dinner.

Usually I get everything done when Reese is in the bouncer or pack n' play.

  • I tidy up the room where we hang out once per day, and other than that I change diapers and feed DD. That's about it.

  • I BF, change diapers, sleep and wash diapers/baby clothes, that's plenty right now. D is 10 days old.
  • Grayson is a very easy baby so far, so I have been super lucky and able to get a lot done.  He's 5 days old. In a 24 hr period I feed him about 8-9 times. Change about 70% of the diapers. Started pumping today.  Do a load of laundry a day, yesterday I dusted, vaccumed and swiftered, straighten stuff up.  Went to BRU a few times so far, loaded and unloaded the dishwasher a few times, make the bed every day, shower and blow dry my hair every other day.  Wrote out thank yous for all of the gifts/food people have brought to the hospital and house in the past 5 days.  We have a small house so it doesn't take too long to keep things nice and clean as long as I keep up on it.  FI has done a lot of the food prep, so that has been nice. :)
  • It depends on the day. Today, I went grocery shopping, washed the diapers and hung them outside to dry, got my health insurance claim ready to mail, and tried to sort out a bit of clutter. That's a good day.

On a bad day, I pretty much do nothing but breastfeed, nap, change the baby, and watch TV while playing online.

The difference between a good day and a bad day is not really up to me at this point.

  • I would have to agree with pp in that it depends on the day. Some days I am very active and get the whole house cleaned - dishes, laundry, cooking, and all - and run errands. Other days I spend most of my time relaxing in between pumping, diaper changing, and cuddling DS. I feel like I'm getting a lot more done than I thought I would be at 8 days post c-section.

  • I keep up with the laundry, hubby does the dishes/vacuums.  I feel great! But doc won't let me exercise, vacuum, lift anything out of fear that I'll pop a stitch!

  • Well we just moved into a brand new house so my goal is to unpack at least 2 to 3 boxes a day. Doesn't sound like a lot but it's really hard because LO is so needy during the day. I get done what I can in between diaper changes and feedings.
