Birth Story (long) and PIP

Our little (or should I say big) guy arrived May 23rd at 3:47 pm. We were going to be admitted for induction on the 22nd but I started to have "real" contractions on the 22nd at about 2:00 am. They were about 20 minutes apart, 45 seconds in length but hurt like hell - couldn't breath or move through them so I thought it was the real deal. Sunday morning my doc suggested I stay at home as long as possible. They go worse through the day and were about 5 minutes apart, 1:20 by 11:00 pm. I thought about trying to get some sleep but knew that wasn't happening so we headed in around midnight. By that point I was vomiting with the contractions they hurt so bad. They checked my progress (I was thinking we'd get there and I'd be about ready to deliver - yeah right!) and I was only 1 cm STILL. I started crying because I couldn't believe with all that pain that's the only progress I had. One midwife wanted to send me home and another offered IV pain meds to "take the edge off" and would admit. Obviously I wasn't going back home and was still vomiting stomach bile since I hadn't eaten so I took the meds even though my inital plan was to try and go med free.

By 4:00 am I was only 3 cm so they wanted to start pitocin - they told me I could have an epidural at anytime but the pitocin would make the contractions worse. They said I could try it and get the epidural later but I knew I couldn't make it so I took the epidural which was the best thing ever and I'll be celebrating my own personal "Epidural Day" every May 23rd : )  No shame here in giving in. By noon I was only 5 cm. Right after that I heard a pop and my water broke - there was some meconium so they said they'd have some NICU folks in the room at delivery and not to be alarmed. Then about 1:30 pm I was having some decelerations and changing positions wasn't helping. My doc finally arrived and said they were going to place internal monitoring and do an amnioinfusion in case there was cord compression causing his heart rate to drop from cord compression which terrifed me. She went to do this at 2:30 pm before she had a c--section at 3:00 pm but when she checked his head was right there and I was 9 cm. She told me we'd start pushing when she got back. One of the docs/residents came-in to start the process - my doc came back around 3:30 and we were ready to start. I focussed and wanted him out fast because of everything so I focussed and pushed like my life depended on it and he was out by 3:48 pm - 15 minutes of push time. He was fine and I let out a sign of relief. I had 2nd degree tears - that's it.

He was 9 lbs even and 21 inches. The docs and residents were skeptical of the 9lb prediction which was right on - they said he felt closer to 7 lbs but they were dead wrong. I don't know were I was keeping him - I didn't gain much weight and didn't have GD - I'm already right back to my pre-pregnancy weight which is weird for me since I have a tendency to gain weight fast - I would have thought I would have gained three times as much with a baby this size - I guess he ate everything.  He had a full head of blonde hair which surprised us - I heard two docs say "I think he has blonde hair?!!" since H and I both have dark hair. My doc high-fived me on the pushing which was funny. We are so in love with our little guy - Greyson David and are trying to get used to parenthood. Hope everything is going well for everyone else!
