Popping over from 12-24! We currently have a 2004 Jeep Grande Cherokee and are looking for an additional car. We are TTC and hope to have #2 when #1 is about two years old. So we are looking at either a 2008 Honda Accord or an 2008 Odyssey. I have a long commute to work (50 minutes) so we thought that the Accord would be great on gas and if I need to do a big shopping trip or something, we have the Jeep Cherokee. Can I really fit 2U2 comfortably in an Accord? I am totally open to a minivan but it is going to be about $5000 more and we are planning to buy the car outright so we don't have a payment so $5000 does make a difference. Thoughts?? Thanks!!!!

Re: Buying a car--Honda Accord for 2U2??
We have 2 honda accords and they work fine for 2u2 as long as neither of you have really long legs and need the seat pushed back farther you may struggle a bit with rear facing. We're short so it's not been a problem.
BUT...
I will tell you that at ages 3 and 4 I'm already wishing I had a 3rd row.
We're rapidly approaching the time of wanting friends to come with us to lunches, parks, sports, etc and I'm confident that our next vehicle purchase will have a 3rd row to accomplish toting friends and car pooling.
Not a necessity but something to think about if you're looking at getting one vehicle now that you'll use for the next 10 years.
Also it would be REALLY nice to not have to help each of them not door ding as they're climbing in and out. A sliding door like a van would be awesome for 2 kids my kids ages who have no clue how to not swing a door open as wide as they please in parking lots
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
I think it's fine for the time being. I drive a compact car even smaller than the accord and make it work with 2u2. We plan on upgrading either when we have a 3rd or the kids are school aged, whatever come first. For the time being, it's nice to not have a car payment.
However, as a PP mentioned, long term it's not a good idea. For the next couple of years, it probably wont matter too much, but when they are school aged you're going to have to upgrade. If you dont mind buying a car you'll use for under 5 years, I'd go for an accord. Otherwise, Id get something larger now.
We have an '01 accord and yes, the carseats fit. However, if I was going to buy a new car, I would get something a little roomier. We can fit our family and that's it-- no grandparents, no cousins, no friends. For now, that works, but I think we'll want something else in the next 5 years or so (probably around the time the car is dead).
I understand not wanting debt, but having to trade in a car after 5 years will cost you more in the long run.
Have you looked at the Chevy Equinox?
