Question for moms who had epi who have at least a one month old

Do you still feel pain where you received the epi? I'm almost 7 weeks PP and still feel pain so bad I can't bend over. Please tell me I'm not the only one!

Re: Question for moms who had epi who have at least a one month old

  • I would talk to your ob or dr. I do not think you should feel pain that long. I had a spinal at 13 weeks when my stitch was put in and had no pain after and even after a month and that is similar to an epi. I did get an epi when having dd and it has only been a week but no pain and dh even looked for a mark and could not see one at all. so I would have your dr check it out just in case.

  • Well, my OB sent me up to L&D after my 6 week appointment last week and the L&D doctors tried the best to avoid admitting it was the epi. Despite the fact I told him my back NEVER hurt until I got it (had to get 2 and they both failed). He suggested maybe I needed to lose my baby weight which was a SLAP in the face because I was 5 lbs down my pre pregnancy weight then he went on to say maybe a sprung my back and yada yada. I don't know what to do

    WTF.

Yeah you should not be feeling that kind of pain.  Did you talk to an anesthesiologist in L&D?  I think you need to see another doctor, preferably one who was not involved in your original care, so you can get a more objective analysis. GL

  • I have some back pain but not where the site of the epi was. maybe go see a chiropractor and see what they say. it might be your body just adjusting from all the changes and movement. I know my ribs hurt where my dd kicked me alot and that has taken some time to feel better.

did they give you anything when you left the hospital for pain? I got percocet and ibuprofen for pain from my c section. that helps.

Is there another dr in your practice that you could get a second opinion?

about the weight, in all honesty that could be true. I gained only 6lbs the whole pregnancy and my daughter was 8lbs 8oz so I know that I would have lost weight but in the hospital leading to her birth I got a ton of fluids which now my body like my legs and feet are super swollen and I have gained a ton of water weight. that water weight is weighing down on my stitches from my c section and that is causing me to have pain.

also the wear and tear on your body with a newborn can make your body from all the lifting and late nights you could have pulled out your back. I would check with a chiropractor. It could be as easy as a adjustment. if you pushed at all you could have hurt something too then and not known about it due to your epidural.

    good luck.

We'll I requested to speak with an anesthesiologist and they sent out a regular doctor I am guessing? I never even seen him before but he was determined to make me think I screwed my own back up. No matter how much I told him it never hurt until I received the epi. He would say maybe it's the weight you gained. Maybe you pulled a muscle picking up the baby (until he saw Trenton was so little). Maybe your body is trying to adjust to you not being pregnant. I kept telling him I was FINE until I got the epi. I couldn't even walk straight the day after birth because my back was in such pain. -sighs-

I was released from the hospital without meds because I was a vaginal (or at least that's what I was told). It's just crazy my back hurts in the EXACT spot I got the epi. No where but in that spot. Also, I don't think I hurt something else pushing and didn't know because I had the epidural because I had 2 epidurals and they both failed. The second stopped working when I hit 8 cms. I could move and feel EVERYTHING. I didn't have a good experience...

  • Mine went away after a few days.  I would see a different doctor, pronto.  It sounds like your doctor is trying to distract and insult you rather than deal with a valid complaint.  I hope you're feeling better soon!

I had a spinal for my c-section and never felt a thing, even the day after.

I would find another doctor, and not a chiropractor. If something is wrong and they try to adjust you it could be bad news.

    Good Luck, that sucks.

I never had epi pain, but my mom said her back hurt for a year after each baby.
  • With DS1 my spine felt a little bruised at the insertion site but it was never so bad I couldn't bend over. Can you call an anesthesiologist at your hospital and see what they say about it? Your doctor sounds like a douche and I would be dropping his ass pronto.

  • I had just a little soreness at the insertion point for maybe two days and then only if I leaned back against something hard. Nothing else.

And I agree about the doctor needing to be replaced.

  • With #1 I had a lot of discomfort at the spot where I had my epidural. I think it was mostly from laying in one position for so long. It wasn't painful, it just ached and was sore feeling. I felt that way for a few months after she was born.
