Re: XP: Should I paint the brick on my house

  • I say no.  If you paint brick you're destined for a lifetime of painting brick maintenance.

  • I've personally never liked the look of painted brick. It's all a personal preference thing though. It can look good if done well.

  • I just don't like painted brick. I also don't like painted wood...I prefer things in their natural (or close to natural) state. I would be more interested in finding a house color that looks good with the brick.

  • It's hard to tell on the picture. You hbe stone for the entry, some brick, and then is there siding too? What trim is there to paint? All I'm seeing is the white along the roof line. What is going on with the two small windows in front? They look like different colors? Or are those blinds? Is there trim around the windows? It looks like they might be old windows? If so I might get new windows first. That can make a big difference to updating the look of the house.

  • I'm definitely not opposed to painting brick... ugly brick.  Yours seems to be attractive from the picture.  Ditto PPs to try to paint the other areas first and see if you still want to... if so, go for it.  I also like the idea of a staining kit if such a thing is available.
