Recommend a White Zin

That has some sweetness to it. I always avoided wine because the only time I've drank it it gave me monster migraines. I finally tried some white zin and no headache!!

I'm clueless. Help a sista out please!

Re: Recommend a White Zin

  • I was a big White Zin girl. Then I branched out some and came to love some others. For additional categories, I would suggest a Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio or Gewurztraminer. I tend towards the sweet wines, I also like Moscato.

For Sav Blanc I like Casa LaPostolle.

I'm blanking on others. I will try to google.

  • OK I'm so clueless, I need to know if any of these are red wines. That's what gives me monster headaches.

  • Nope. They're all whites. I like the taste of Pinot Noir, but it's a red and Reds give me monster headaches. Are you allergic to Sulfa drugs? It's the sulfites that get me.

One problem that I had was that I was serving whites too cold. I tend to have my refrigerator set to very cold, so the wine was always super cold = doesn't taste awesome.

As far as I know I am not allergic to Sulfa drugs. I have no clue what causes the headaches but they suckass.

  • It's probably the sulfites anyways. You can also try looking for a sulfate free red wine if you really like the taste.

Sauv Blanc is my go to White. It's an everyman white, which may make it sound bland, but not so. It's just generally well received. Think of George Clooney. Classy, suave, good in any situation.

I don't like Chardonnay very much, but do enjoy Toasted Head. Chardonnay tends to be oak-y, which I don't like. Occasionally I will like a Chardonnay that has been aged in steel casks for the latter half of its fermenting process.

Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are good, but a little sharper, like a granny smith is different than a fuji apple. Pinot grigio is lighter than pinot gris.

I will take my clothes off and dance naked for white burgundy. Seriously, I love this shiit. It's expensive though.

Viognier is another white that you may like. It tends to be light, not oak-y, slightly sweet.

Gewurztraminer is a sharp white wine. Think sharp like sparkling apple cider, although Gewurztraminer isn't sparkling. You will either love it or hate it. I like a specific Gewurtz from a small winery in Long Island that I've been to. (Lenz Winery)

Moscato is a sweet, sweet dessert wine that I could drink with meals because I'm a sugar whore. It's also why I like Plum Wine (Takara brand only). Don't try it unless you like sugary sweet and intend to become it's biitch.

My suggestion is to find a local wine store that you like. Tell them you're branching out and want to learn. If they're a good store, they'll direct you to a varietal and explain different labels. Ask to speak with their manager, or sommelier. Once a week buy a bottle and have dinner with the hubs. Try it, make sure your fridge is set to a correct temp and take notes. What do you like, what didn't you like?  Take your notes back and discuss, then try a different kind.

I rarely spend more than $12 for a bottle of wine, and I've had a lot of good wine. Also, try the bottles that have tags saying they won a wine competition. OR try the ones with funny names and labels. I've had some that could strip the wax off your floors an some that were OMGAwesome. If you go out to dinner and order a glass or a bottle, have the waiter write down the brand, name and year. We do this frequently.

    Salut! or, Slainte!

Beringer or Sutter Home.  I think Sutter is a little sweeter but I LOVE Beringer White Zin.  It's cheap and I could drink it with a straw.

I also recently discovered Riesling.  It is white and that's about all I know other than it is really sweet.

Riesling is my wine of choice.  I was a white zin girl before I discovered it.  It's a must-try!
