Severe Tailbone Bone

It's gotten to the point where I can't walk more than about 10 minutes at a time. I can not go up and down stairs, which is why I brought my husband with me to babysit my favorite 2 year old munchkin, because her bedroom is upstairs and she likes to go up and down a LOT. I just can't do it.

I see a chiropractor regularly, and actually just saw her yesterday. She did comment how tight my hips are and how it's going to get worse because my hips are expanding. But seriously, less than 24 hours and I can't move? What am I going to do for the next 16 weeks?

I keep thinking their must be some sort of support belt or something that will support my hips? Does anybody know what I mean? I know there are materinity belts that are supposed to help spport the belly but I need to support my hips. I just don't know what else to do. I'm in tears. :(

Re: Severe Tailbone Bone

  • My bff is pg right now too, and suffering from a lot of tailbone pain. She is using accupuncture to help with some of the relief. I'm not sure how much it would help something that severe? Does your chiropractor off it at all?

I don't think so, but it's entirely possible. I will ask her next time, on Tuesday. The neurologist I see does accupuncture, but I'm not sure my insurance will cover it. I will check into it. Thanks. I'm sitting here in tears. :(

  • Oh yes! I know exactly what you mean. All my labor and pain is in my tailbone.  hence why I love the epidural. : )

My tailbone has always hurt during all of my pregnancies. I'm pregnant with our third and if I sit for to long and get up, it hurts.  I have found that it helps to have DH put hot towels (hand towels soaked in hot water) on my tailbone first.  Then, rub Icy/Hot on it afterwards.  It helps with the pain if you do it once a month.

  • I was feeling this about 4 weeks ago. Could barely walk at times or lift my left leg and stairs were a no go. I thought, great I have 4 months of torture left. Somehow it got better though and things are looking up again. I was in tears like you too and didn't know how I was going to make it. I scheduled an appointment with an orthopaedic doc and by the time the appt came 2 weeks later it was better. I hope it gets better for you too.

Is there a reason you only do it once a month? If it helps I might be tempted to do it every night. Embarrassed

jlmcelroy- It is reassuring to know that for some people it gets better!

  • I feel your pain! Only I don't have a tailbone. It was broken off during middle school. I still have severe pain where it used to be. A heating pad helps me sometimes. But my OB said to not leave it on for more than 15 minutes. Another thing that helps is doing different streches. Hope you find relief soon!
  • I also had horrible tailbone pain, got worse throughout the day to where at night I could only lay in bed. I started using a snoogle, and it has gotten so much better! I think the part that goes between my legs has been the most helpful in positioning my hips when I sleep at night. Also, I have seen the hips belts you mention at BRU, but not sure if its ok to use them at this point since you want your hips to spread.

    Hope you feel better soon!

I thought this too but what I really am looking for is something to support them, not really tighten them, if that makes sense.
