Hey, Guys,
I have an out of town meeting next weekend and should be gone Saturday afternoon to Sunday night. How much milk do I need to leave for a two-month-old? I've only been pumping for a week, and this meeting just came up.
If you have any advice for pumping while traveling, that would be great, too. I'm on the board of a non-profit and will be staying in a fellow board member's guest room, not a hotel, so she said I could store in her fridge.)
Thanks!
Re: Leaving LO for first time next weekend...
When I had to be out of town overnight for work, my challenge was pumping throughout the day during my meeting. Where is the meeting being held? If it's in a hotel, I'd talk to the hotel staff and let them know your needs. They should be able to provide you with a private area to pump, and they may even be able to store your milk in a refrigerator with a claim ticket.
I went to a conference at a hotel we were not staying at, and they were very accommodating--gave me a key to the fitness club locker room so I could come and go to pump whenever I needed over the two days.
How long is your drive? To make sure your milk stays plenty cold, you may need to pack it in an insulated lunch bag or cooler with ice.
A few other notes: the milk will take up less space in bags instead of bottles, and make sure to bring extra pump parts just in case, along with a battery pack for your pump, since you may not know where you'll be able to pump.
Good luck!
Thanks so much. The meeting is actually at the home where I'll be staying. It seems silly. I'm driving 5+ hours each way for a 3 hour meeting, but I don't think the board members get that this isn't the way the world works anymore. (It's a literary non-profit, and I think I'm the only board member who isn't retirement age.) The meetings rotate monthly around the state and are usually in college/university libraries. This will be my first one since I was just elected. I read on kellymom.com to leave 25 oz a day. Does that sound right?
Thanks again!

That's what I mean about how crazy it is. They think it's fair because the meetings are in a different city each month. Oregon's a state where something like 90% of the population lives in the Western half, and I live in the Eastern half, so the closest they will have a meeting to me is 3 hours away. One city they'll have a meeting in eventually is a 7 hour drive for a 3 hour meeting. Maybe by being on the board I can change this????
