Pregnant after a Loss

? for progesterone users

Are you getting lower back pain? I've been getting it ever day, really bad, since I started taking the progesterone (2 days past ovulation) but on the insert it doesn't mention back pain so...?

I feel as though somebody hit me with a sledge hammer. Am I alone in this? I don't remember feeling this way so early when pregnant with DS. And I'm not sure if it's the pills or the pregnancy. Any input is appreciated Stick out tongue

  • I was on progesterone with my first pregnancy, and I had the back pain. Although I have it with this pregnancy also. Maybe it's just a coincidence that it started after taking it?

Lol, I definitely have mood swings and the crazy dreams- last week I dreamt I gave birth to twins and they were black lab puppies!

Thanks ladies, looks like maybe the back pain is just pregnancy related. lucky me!

  • I haven't noticed back pain but I have noticed hot flashes and I'm not sure (can't remember) if that is a side effect or not . . . or maybe it's just the pregnancy.

It's hard to tell when taking the pills what symptoms are pregnancy related and what symptoms are related to the medications.  I often wonder a lot of times when feeling a specific way if it's the meds or if it's the pregnancy.

I don't really understand the difference between progesterone and prometrium -- my understanding is they are the same.  On that note, I have been taking prometrium once a day for the luteal phase of each cycles I was TTC.  Since I took it at night before bed I didn't really notice any side effects.  When I got pregnant I started taking it twice a day.  For the first week of doing that I didn't really notice any symptoms but a week in I got really bad lower back pain for about 2 days and it has since gone away.  I wondered if it was the prometrium, but I don't know.  Its my understanding there are a bunch of random changes, pains, cramps, etc during early pregnancy so right now I am just trying to focus on not freaking out with each new symptom I have...so that's my suggestion to you! I know its easier said than done, but all the worrying was really starting to wear on me.

Thanks :) I'm not really worrying that anything is wrong- it is just annoying and hurts lol! I just get confused trying to differentiate what is the prometrium (that is what I'm on) or the pregnancy, kwim?

On another note- I am taking 400 mg (2 200mg pills a day) and I take them both at night. Does anybody know if I'm supposed to take one in the morning/one at night? I will obvously call my doctor tomorrow but this just occured to me...

I take 200mg of the Prometrium and they are 100mg pills so I take 1 pill in the morning and 1 at night.  That was how I was advised to take them.  I'm not sure what would be better or if it honestly would make a difference.  But yes, I would definately check with your doc on that this week.

  • I use the suppositories and have since 4DPO.   I had back pain in week 4 and 5 but I don't think it was related to the progesterone.  I think it is just pregnancy related.

  • I don't think I've ever had side effects from Prometrium... my doctor has me on 200mg 2x day vaginally.  I do have back pain, but it's upper back and pretty sure it's more related to muscle tension than anything else pregnancy-related.

  • I am on Endometrin (100 mg 2x a day), and I have had back pain, but I have a bad lower back and I have noticed that changing which shoes I was wearing helped a lot.  I don't know if the back pain was my stupid back problems, the pregnancy or the progesterone.

    I hope you feel better.

  • I did not experience back pain with progesterone, but as I get further along in my pg I do have back pain.  My opinion is the pg is causing back pain.
