Bringing DC to OB appointments

If you already have children younger than school age, do you bring them with you to OB appointments? I just started SAH 5 months ago, and don't have a daytime sitter to use yet. Plus it seems silly to have someone come for only an hour. I brought my two year old DS to my initial appointment, and he was really well behaved, despite the long wait. My next appointment is an u/s, but DH will be there to help with DS too. Once DS starts preschool at the end of August, I'll just schedule my visits for the days he has school. Guess I'm just wondering what others do. What's the norm at your OB practice?

Re: Bringing DC to OB appointments

  • I've brought all my children to the appointments with my midwife through all my pregnancies. I see women all the time there with kids. My kids are 11, 8, 6, and 3 right now, and I just make sure to bring things for them to snack on and entertain themselves with. So far it hasn't been an issue!

Wow, that would exclude me from being able to use that OB. I understand why they have that policy, but what a pain.

I bring my daughter to my appts.  My midwives are great, they have a playroom and a room to nurse.  They really want the entire family a part of the whole experience. I love them :)  I can't imagine having a limit on how many kids to bring in to an appt.  That seems a little much for me....

  • I'm a SAHM and I don't have any options for child care during the week.   So ds comes with me.  During the spring and fall he usually goes to MDO so I will schedule appts on those days but during the summer they are going to just have to accept that he comes with me!  lol

There is an ob/gyn office in my area that my mom went to last year and she said they had a note on their door basically saying no children allowed!   I told her I would never go to a practice like that, same as the pp that mentioned a limit on kids, I would never use that practice or a practice like that.

  • I will be bringing my baby to all my appointments.
  • My mom is retired and only lives a mile away so usually she watches my kids.  When I was pg with my 2nd I felt that DD was so little she would just be disruptive and I wouldn't be able to talk to my ob.  I could take her if I needed to but it was easier not too. At that ob I don't see a lot of kids but I can take them if I need to.  I'm planning on taking DD to my u/s's because I think she'll really enjoy seeing the baby but DS is all about any buttons that he can see and pushing them repeatedly so he'll stay home.  :)
