Pregnant after 35

two weeks today!

hi there- i'm brand new. we've been using an opk and i took a test yesterday (god, i've never peed on things so much in my life0 is this what it's like to be a guy??) and it was positive!! i've actually been sick as a dog for a solid week, which prompted the test.

anyway- i'm so excited to be writing here right now, i can't even tell you. we're 38, been married for almost two years, together for nine. this is the most amazing thing!!

i already have a small dilemma i could use some advice on. we obviously haven't told anyone yet, but here's the problem. we are going away with our closest friends, including my two brothers- who we are very very close with- this coming weekend. this trip is a tradition, a way to keep friends spread out across a few states in touch. we bond, we laugh and we lubricate that- alot- with beer and wine!! for a four day stretch, even if we try me drinking from a wine bottle prefilled with juice of some kind- someone's gonna grab my bottle, realize it's not wine and we'll be forced to spill the beans. me just not drinking is not an option- it'll be a dead giveaway, since everyone knows we're been trying. so the dilemma is, do we tell? my family is in a different state, so driving over to tell my parents first, isn't an option. our ideas as of now have been,

a) don't tell and fake drink.

b) call parents and tell them before we leave and then get to share this amazing news with our closest friends, making the weekend even more wonderful.

c) tell everyone, have an amazing weekend, swear them all to secrecy. tell parents at a party everyone is already going to be at three weeks from now, therefore getting to tell parents in person, together. but parents wouldn't know first.

 thoughts?

this is the greatest dilemma EVER! thanks for your input!

Re: two weeks today!

  • First of all - congrats!!

Second of all - we kind of had fun being the only ones to know for the first 12 weeks.  It was a private look here and there, shared apprehension until we could get our test results back, it was a special time for both of us.  If it were me, I would make up something about the doctor saying no drinking during TTC and not bring up the pregnancy (I would be paranoid that people would treat me "fragile" and limit my fun).

    third of all - CONGRATS!!

  • Welcome, and congratulations!  Me, I'd do B, PLUS swear everyone to secrecy.  Or C, if your parents can't keep a secret.  I guess another way to go would be the "don't ask, don't tell" method, where you don't drink, and when anyone asks just wink and say "shhh!"

  • What great news. Welcome and congrats. So exciting!

You have some great ideas on what to do. If it were me, I'd tell my closet friends and my family (that's what we did actually). I wasn't too concerned about the feedback from others. At one point I did have a friend (not close, but at a party) ask me why I didn't try the "amazing Pinot" and I simply told them hubby and I were trying. End of discussion (worked fine). I think most people understand that if a couple is trying to have a baby, drinking may not be the best idea. Whatever you decide, enjoy your pregnancy and congrats again!
