NBR: Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I found the book to be very dark and depressing in a lot of ways, but it was definitely a page turner, and it didn't end the way I thought it would.

The trailer for the American version of the film (the trilogy has already been made into films in Sweden), I'm looking forward to seeing the film this Christmas.

Has anyone else read it?

  • I've read all three and seen the movies too. Love the series! Even started reading another Swedish murder mystery writer because of them (but he's not early as good as steig larsson!)

  • I haven't but a friend told me about them.  Are they supposedly true or are they fiction?  (I thought she told me they were true but I can't remember.)

  • I read the first one because it was a book club book.  It was hard to get into at first, but once I got past the beginning, I was hooked.  I have since read the other 2 and loved them.  I recommend finishing the series.

Not sure I want to see the American movies.  I have heard good things about the Sweedish versions though.

Dude, it's Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist. Daniel Craig is hawt. How can you not watch that?

If you liked the first, you really should read the next two.  Just be sure you don't have anything going on during that time because they are extremely addictive.  Its a fantastic trilogy and Stieg Larsson very much examines women's issues and rights.

The trailer is not what I expected . . . but I think the hodgepodge of scenes really fits the book.  I hope they are able to capture the intensity of the books, and it looks like they sure have tried.  I cannot wait to see it.

I agree.  He is just delicious, and only he could bring Mikael Blomkvist to life I think.  They were both appropriately cast.   Off to google who was cast for Erika Berger.

It was the Book Club selection for December 2010.  I couldn't get into it at all.  After the meeting, people assured me that even though it started really slow, it does pick up and was an excellent book.

Maybe watching the US movie version and then reading the book will help me get into it. I'm pretty sure that imagining Daniel Craig while I read the book can only help! Smile

I've read the second book, but I don't have the third yet.

Apparently Steig Larsson actual sketched out the overall plan for TEN books with Blomkvist, but he died before the 4th book was completed. His family is apparently in a legal mess with this long-time live-in partner over who owns the unfinished 4th manuscript, since the couple was not legally married, and he had no will. The partner (sorry, I forget her name) says that she helped him with the first three books and can finish the fourth, but she's not willing to just hand over proceeds to his family.

I was where you were at at the meeting.  I could not get into it.  But, after the meeting and hearing what came after all that boring stuff in the beginning, I pushed through and I really got into the book.  I promise...it gets better!

  • Oooh, so excited to see this movie.  The books & Swedish movies are fantastic.  Love Daniel Craig, but I kinda wish they had hired the same girl to play Lisbeth.  She was excellent (and less scary looking), and her English is pretty much perfect.
