DS1's mn is Dominic. I don't like it spelled any other way.
I prefer Dominic (it's our hypothetical boys name) but I was told by a few people that the black community pronounces that name Dom-i-neek whether it's spelled that way or Dominique, so that's why they put the K on the end. Dominique can be a males name as well. I grew up across the street from a Dominic who was called Dominique a lot. I've heard that from a few people in my area when we were thinking of names and I know quite a few Italian boys with the K.
I don't want to start a race/cultural debate, this is just me relaying what I was told/experienced.

Usually I'm on board with the traditional spellings, but my brother's middle name is Dominick, after our great grandfather.
There is also a grocery store chain in Chicago called Dominick's.

My father's name is Dominick. I have always felt that "Dominic" looks unfinished. I guess it is all in how you look at it.
