Re: Anyone seen the documentary "Babies?"

  • Is it the Nat Geo one?  I think that one had a baby that had this crazy sensor 'helmet' hooked up to her head to track brain waves?

If that's the one you're talking about, DH and I have watched it and thought it was really neat.  DS not so much.  I think he may have been a tad jealous that we were "paying attention" to other kids.  LOL!

  • I really liked it.  Especially the scene with the goat and the water.

  • No, I dont think thats the one, lol. This one follows 4 babies living in different parts of the world (Namibia, Japan, USA and Mongolia) from the time they were born (not finished watching it yet).

Yes! That little guy has the cutest chubbiest cheeks! I thought the part where the little Japanese girl has the temper tantrum is hysterical.

  • Is it on TV or are you watching it on Netflix?  For some reason, I think I recall seeing that they had that one on Netflix but didn't get around to watching it.

Sounds like I'm going to have to, though!

  • We checked it out from the library a few weeks ago! It was really cute! Very interesting! I kind of wish we could have learned more details about the cultures and babies though.

  • I saw it when it first came out on DVD.  It was really sweet.  Babies really are all the same, aren't they?

My favorite part was when the older Mongolian boy started pushing away his little sister (or was it a brother?) in the stroller when the parents weren't looking.

  • yeah i saw it-

i kinda wished there was SOME commentary to learn more about the cultures- especially with how BFing is viewed in the different cultures- as well as the actual birthing process-

i thought it was really interesting how the baby from mongolia went home from the hospital- all tied up and strapped to a motorcycle- lol

  • Sounds like I'm going to have to watch it!  I can't wait to see it!

And though I haven't watched it yet, I'm surprised they didn't address the things Stacy mentioned.

  • I watched most of it - late at night, so I fell asleep before it was over.

You'll have to see it to understand.  There isn't much (any?) commentary at all.  It's definitely done in a fashion so that you can see that babies are the same all over the world.

I was talking about this to the girl i work with and I said I was surprised at how cute ALL of the babies were and that they must have documented lots and only went with the cutest ones, lol.

I loved the entire family on the motorcycle.  I also liked when the rooster was walking around the baby :-)

  • I loved this movie!!  I love the little Mongolian boy, him and his brother were cracking me up the entire time!

I also about died laughing when the San Francisco baby was riding the little train and fell off the end...omg!  I can see my DH doing that : )

  • Wiping the baby's butt with the eaten corn cob was pretty interesting too.
