My son seems to have a lot of gas issues. He passes gas and freaks right after or while passing it, along with crying when going #2... He is on Zantac and Mylicon drops... We had him on Similac Advanced, Similac Sensitive and now trying the Soy... (only been a day) He cries often when we put him down unless he is Sooo tired. then he will drift off and then wake up hysterical.. He cries midway through a feeding and then usually does not finish more than 3 oz at a time (feeding every 2- 3 hrs for the most part) he's 5 weeks... I am not sure what the problem is and it is soo frustrating and exhausting!! When we feed him, he eats some and then cries as he is passing the gas... he pushes his head back and freaks and you can hear the gas... Any help would be great! Do you thnk it is milk related? Could soy help? Reflux? (but I am pretty certain that is not what it is even though he is on Zantac... TIA!!! |
Re: My LO is sooo gassy and cries in pain... help
My son was the same way for the first couple of months. I wanted to try similac sensitive so bad, to see if that would make even a slight difference. We never changed his formula though, because the pedi said if the formula was causing this he would be puking it up. Changing formulas could be doing more harm than good. We stuck with Similac Advance until he turned a year old.
The fussyness only lasted a few months, hang in there it will get better. I went through the same thing with my LO. Their bodies are just getting used to everything, and it takes a few months. HTH!
Edit:: My LO was also on Zantac for 8 weeks because my pedi said my LO could be getting a small case of heartburn.
I had the same problem with DS#1. We elevated his mattress at night (put towels under the mattress just slightly). Sleeping at an incline helps with the gas. You can also try the Fisher Price Rock N Play Sleeper.
Also, do you have an exercise ball? Hold him upright and bounce. The bouncing seems to really help with getting the gas to move through their system. Also, the rythum of the bouncing helps put them to sleep.
