What are you, or did you do to help with sore nipples?
I have lanolin, and even a rx for nipple cream (which is amazing - but you can't breastfeed for 2 hours after applying and with her cluster feeding... I haven't been able to use it recently). I've tried gel pads, and recently got some nipple shields to keep clothing off of it.
All provide some relief, but I'm just curious as to what worked best for you ladies.

Re: BFing Momma's come in!
When I was at your kids point in age, I was having the same issue. Just miserably sore, and I had a crack on one side. I did use a nipple shield but she didn't really like it. Nipple shells helped a little bit but about 2 days ago (at 12 days old) one side just stopped hurting. No pain there at all anymore. My left side still has a healing crack so that is a challenge but I know in a few days that will go as well.
Sometimes time is just what works. Make sure you are nursing with a different hold each time (football hold, cross hold, sidelying, etc.) to get your nipple at a different angle each time, that helped.
All of those things combined. It started getting better about the time you are at. Are you using lansinoh or medela? I really preferred medela. If you can't use the rx then you can at least use a good cream.
Another trick I learned is if you put liquid dish soap in small freezer bags and freeze it then they stay cold for a long time and they stay totally pliable. It molded quite nicely to my boobs.
Good luck! Stick with it because it does get better. Unfortunately it's probably the cluster feeding that is making it harder on you. I hope it gets better soon.

I do have the medela cream, which I've been using instead of the perscription. I'll try the liquid soap and switching up positions more often. Hopefully that'll help. I'm definitely not planning on giving up - I can bf through the pain. And to be honest it's only really painful the first few sucks then it's pretty ok, with the occasional painful suck. It's just painful to the point now where I cringe before she's even latched.
Thanks for the tips! I just hope it gets better sooner rather than later.

agreed! nothing was helping for me the first week! I scabbed and everything!! Now it's fine! So if nothing else just know it won't always hurt!
I am right there with you!! I do all the things mentioned above, constant lanolin, but I put it right on my breast pad to not touch the nipple, I add a few drops of milk after she is done eating to each side (was told this helps), I use ice and I change positions a lot. I also apply a ton of lanolin before I shower, and I immed. re apply some ot the breast pad as soon as she is done nursing. I tried the nipple shields, but they were a mess for me b/c I am producing so much milk I just leaked all over the place.
the thing I found that helps me the most mentally is to say the alphabet slowly (not mississippily slowly
) but if the pain has stopped by the letter P, then I know that it's not getting worse, and I get so happy if it stops before then, like J or something. cheesy, totally...but it is helping.
It was definitely time for me. I was giving myself headaches from gritting my teeth when he latched on. My nips were never cracked or blistered or anything, though. It was just the initial latch pain.
Now that's pretty much gone. I put a bit of medela lanolin on once in a while (being as I bought it), but really I think it was just time.

I guess I have been insanely lucky - this guy doesn't hurt at all when he nurses. Maybe a twinge of pain for the first few days while he was latching on, but after a week even that was done.
I got an Rx for Jack Newman's Nipple Ointment. It's been really nice. I wasn't given an instructions about waiting any length of time before I nursed and wasn't told to wipe it off or anything.
Medela works fairly well too.
Same here. I'm sorry that you are going through so much pain though! I did use Lansinoh or Medela (whichever one was handy or closer, hospital had both) for the first few days, but I stopped when I didn't get sore or cracked.
This is what I used with DS and am already using now. No need to wash off. The ingredients are on his website if your doctor doesn't know how to write the prescription. This stuff saved my boobs last time and has already helped today with the crack I had.
I was lucky that I had a good milk supply, so I was able to just feed him one breast at a time, so that gave the other breast a little bit more time to heal in between feedings.
I've been using lots of nipple cream. I had some Medela samples from the hospital and I had a tube of Laninosh. After trying both kinds, I like the Medela cream better. I also just got a prescription cream this morning, so I'll start using that. I had some scabs on my nipples from cracking and it took about 3 days to heal the initial cracks. My left side is completely healed, but my right side still needs some work, hense the prescription cream.
I think it just takes time. I can sympathize with the sore nipples.
Baby #2 on the way!
I LOVE lanolin - I'm using lansinoh. I was worried at first about bfing right after applying and I try to strategically use it so I'm not, but sometimes it can't be helped. The LC said it was fine and ok if he ingests a little bit of it.
The first 2 weeks I was very sore and it hurt a LOT when he first latched (even with a good latch) but now it really doesn't hurt.
