pp bleeding. Clot?

I am 4 days pp. Bleeding is normal I would say getting lighter. Probably less than a period sometimes actually. Just got up to pee and passed what seemed like tissue "liver like". Dr google makes it seem like retained placenta which can cause pp hemorage. It was about as big as a ping pong ball. Like I said though, bleeding is pretty normal. I plan to call my OB in the morning. Anyone else experience this?

  • I had the exact same thing happen to me on day 5.  I decided to hold off on calling the doctor unless another one came out.  Which hasn't...thankfully.  I'm also experiencing the same thing as you in terms of bleeding...pretty much less than a period.  Let me know if you end up calling the doctor and what she/he says.

  • Nope - My OB said to let them know about any blood clots that are larger than the size of a quarter.  I would call the OB in the morning.

This. My OB said anything larger than a golf ball to call. A ping pong ball is pretty close to a golf ball, so I would definitely call someone.

  • I passed one that was the size of my hand. It eas very scary and quite gross. My dr said if I wasnt soaking pads that it was normal. You should still call your dr but be aware of any bleeding that seems excessive.

  • My doctor said that I should expect to pass a largish clot within a week after delivery- she explained it as the "scab" from the placenta. By all means, call to ease your mind, but I wouldn't worry too much about it if you are experiencing no other changes.

Mine told me there would probably be one really large one (up to the size of my fist- which it actually was) and other smaller ones (I had another the size and shape of a ping-pong ball). She said after a clot to monitor myself for bleeding but as long as I wasn't soaking more than 2 pads an hour everything was fine. I'd still call if it will make you feel better but I was told to expect some big clots.

This.  I also remember having cramping and then after that big clot I felt instant relief.  Always go with your gut though, but it sounds normal if it was just that one.

  • Thanks for the info. Was the actual bleeding thick or thin for you all? And the clot? Was it the consistency I described?

My bleeding was pretty thin and the clot was very liver-like. It actually came out as I was having my first bowel m,ovement PP  (sorry if TMI) and I thought I had some kind of rupture and the poop was coming out the front (I had an episiotomy). When I reached down and felt it and saw the blood I started freaking out thinking that my insides were coming out and had my husband come tell me what it was. Once I realized I fished it out and all was well- just a little scary.

  • When I was getting discharged from the hospital they told me I would definitely have clots coming out-which I did. Mostly in the size of grapes. But if I passed any the size of a lemon or larger then to call them. I haven't had any that big but I have definitely had little ones that were like you described yours.
  • Ended up talking to the ob. She said that what I described is fine and just to watch and call if I have increased excessive bleeding which I don't. Thanks for the reassurance.
