We were inspired by this nursery and took the doors off the closet this morning to shove the crib in it. It looks fantastic. I'm going to sew a valance next weekend to finish the look, and love the idea of curtains hanging down like this one.
Is this safe though? They'd be bolted in pretty good but don't they present a choking/strangling hazard for an older baby? DH and I aren't quite sure.

I wouldn't do it. A baby even a few months old could pull that into the crib with them. At best, it would almost certainly be used by an older baby to help them climb out of the crib. And you could bolt it in really well, but over time with enough pulling or hanging from it, the bolts could easily wear down.
It's a shame it's so cute. LOL
I think I would NOT do the curtains on the side..it seems like it could be a problem once the kid starts reaching and pulling.
but I like this idea...could you paint some panels to match or coordinate with the valance, like shutters?
ok- are ya following me on this? what if the "shutter" panels - like one of them anyway- was also a growth chart? aren't you renting? this way it would be removable to go with you wherever you might move to over time-
you could custom paint subtle measurement incriments into the pattern, so it'd match, but also function- and the other side could be the same mabe ot without the measurements. just something to tie in the valance and bedding.
but not to aid in escape or strangulation.
This is our nursery inspiration board thing. The crib skirt is the blue/brown/orange tear fabric, the bumpers the yellow.
These are a lot of the other textiles in the room.
I mean- even if they were two by fours the length of the door frame...
or a couple of 2x4s wide...
or you could stretch a long skinny canvas on each side (or use the same fabric as the valance stretched canvas style on a custom sized shutter shaped frame...
staple gun, balsa wood...fabric...cheap and ez.
or the painted wood...
ooooooooooooooh. See and this is where a carpenter father with a full woodshop comes in verrry helpful.
if you don't have a ton of the fabric, you could easily paint the pattern or a version of it onto wood (or fabric.) that craft paint at michaels in 2000colors is like a dollor a bottle.
I like your colors. very happy. Juneys nursery was gray yellow and white with random pink.
my glider was covered in gray and yellow and white 60s barkcloth, god I loved it.
when we moved out of our house, I was too sad to see it repainted, so the painters came after we'd moved.

OR- could you repurpose two panels of a folding door?
or some variation there of- painted to match, one panel mounted on either side of the closet frame?
if the size would fit- you might need somethign more narrow, though..

my dad also has a full wood shop in his garage!! I was pist he was 1400 miles away!! he DID make me daisy knobs for j's dresser, though and sent them.
but if we were nearer he could have seriously done some awesome stuff to our house...
I don't want to have to buy doors. Hmm. I'll figure this out. I'm thinking just canvas stretched on wood frames that open on hinges, one side with a bunch of lines marked on it in fabric paint.
My dad owns a cabinet business, it's what he does. It's awesome, if I ever need to go sand something I can take it to his shop and use his industrial sanders and air compression system and paint booths. It's a breeze.

I was bummed that I didn't have a removable growth chart. I thought about prying off the molding I used before we move, but...it seemed not good. of course we still own the house, but Im sure it was painted. sad.
This. I wouldn't do the curtains and I wouldn't have the crib in the closet if it's a tight fit like that picture. It doesn't look like there'd be much air flow around the crib (which is a SIDS risk). It's definitely a cute idea, and I like Edith's shutter idea. But if there's not much room around the crib, I wouldn't do it.
