Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What age did you/are you moving to convertible seat?

My daughter is almost 9 months but still pretty small - 17 pounds. We can carry her easy enough and it's nice to just pick up the whole carrier when she's sleeping, but I think I want to move to a rear facing convertible soon.

When did you guys make the move?

  • We moved him to the convertible seat at 6 months.  He hated the infant carrier and when we moved him to the convertible, car rides went much smoother!!!

DD is small too (15 lbs 12 oz at her appointment yesterday) so we're not really thinking about convertible yet. We'll get her one for her birthday and probably start using it after a year.

  • .We Just got 1 convertible seat the other day,DS is almost 9.5mos old. He was 3/4in away from height limit but never exceeded weight limit.

  • LO hit the height limit at 4 months.  She was in the 95th percentile for height, and our infant seat had a low height limit.  It's not just weight you have to be concerned about, but height too.

  • We won't be switching until he gets closer to outgrowing the infant seat, which won't be until after 12 months.  He's still happy and comfortable in his current seat and I like having the option of carrying him in it.  At this point there's no reason for us to switch to a convertible seat.  I couldn't participate in the poll since you don't have an option for 12 months+.

We switched around 8 months. We go out of town every other week usually a 2 1/2 hour drive. DS hated his infant seat and since we have switched over it has become a lot more peaceful in our car. DS was also outgrowing the heighth limit on the infant seat.
  • We moved her at about 6 months because she'd already outgrown the infant seat! The straps had gotten too tight and she didn't look comfortable anymore. She was still under the weight limit but she's round :)  She loves being in the bigger seat :)

  • We moved him over at 4 months (21 pounds)
He didn't like being reclined any longer at that point, and was MUCH happier in the convertible.

  • Ummmm, later than 12 months? Embarrassed She still fits in the bucket safely and we haven't found a convertible to fit RF in my truck so I plan to use it as long as possible. We're going out next week car seat shopping again so hopefully we find something!

I just wanted to mention that we have the Symphony 65 and it's weight ranges for use are 5-100lbs.  It can be used in 3 different configurations starting as an infant (which I wouldn't do) and goes through to a booster seat.  I believe DS was 17lbs when we started him in the seat and he did great.

  • We moved him over at 9 months RF because he likes to sit up and look at his brother. I still have my Graco Safeseat that fits infants up to 30 pounds and sometimes he rides in that if we take long car rides because he sleeps better in it =)) He doesn't mind it as long as he doesn't have to ride in it everyday.

  • We've used a convertible since we brought him home.
  • 10.5 months. I waited until the weather got a bit nicer to switch.
  • We moved to the convertible, hated it, and then switched back to the infant seat.

  • 4 months. Both my boys are tall for their age. V just didn't fit.

  • We switched once the weather was nice enough we didn't need blankets or car seat cover to carry DD from the car to inside. It is a bummer when she falls asleep in the car now, but she was getting so heavy to carry in the infant seat.
  • We switched around 5months. He was 20lbs at 4 months and the weight limit was only 22 lbs. He hated the infant seat anyways because he always wanted to sit up in it so the convertible has been great.

  • We switched DS at 4 months. He was 27" and 20lbs so he was getting really close to the limit. He is much more comfortable in the convertible.

My son is 25lb and I'm just now thinking of moving him because our carseat the Graco Snugride 35 goes up to 30" & 35lb.

We switched around 6 months because DS exceeded the height limit for the infant carrier and we could no longer click the restraints in place without squishing his little boy parts :(  I wish we could have stayed with the infant carrier longer than we did because life became that much more difficult with the convertible seat but it is what it is.  It was just so much nicer to be able to carry him in the infant seat than to have to physically carry him here and there and not be able to put him down if I needed to.
