Breastfeeding

Has anyone successfully breastfed after a breast reduction?

I had a reduction about 12 yrs ago, and I tried to BF my daughter six years ago unsuccessfully. She had trouble latching so I EP but my supply was very low. I wondered if anyone else has had a reduction and still produces enough to bf without supplementing or if I might need to supplement with this baby. TIA

  • I know I read a blog by someone who did and wrote quite extensively about it - girlsgonechild.net

She had much better luck the second time around. The first time she didn't produce enough either.

  • I am BFAR but not w/o supplementing.  I read in the Defining Your Own Success book that many times the supply is better with the 2nd baby.

  • i am.  my baby is 4 months old.  i don't supplement at all.  my surgery was 12 years ago.  i make plenty of milk for her.  i will say that i don't get much when i pump though.  however, that could be b/c i am not disciplined with it.  i don't do it everyday b/c she is with me all the time and i just nurse her.
