Re: XP: Need good outcome stories re: induction starting without cervical changes
It took 2 days to get labor going, but once they got it started everything went so much better than I expected. For the record, the first 36 hours were cytotec. My water broke less than 2 hours after they took the cervadil out. I went from 0cm at 9pm, my water breaking at 10:55pm, to DS at 4:39am.
Induction is a slow process. Do your best to keep faith in your body. You can do it!
Here's my birth story about being induced, I hope this helps! (Obviously Cayden is not still in the nicu, but I'm bad at editing on the fly
On Thursday mom and I went to my regular doctor checkup and then to get an ultrasound. They discovered his amniotic fluid was much lower than they like to see so they sent us to the hospital for an induction. We stopped by DH's work so he would know (go figure he left his phone at home that day!) and then picked up my hospital bag and were on our way!
They started me on cervadil to thin out my cervix sometime Thursday night. I got to take a bath and this was the most relaxing night of the whole thing! I was having contractions but nothing too terrible. I slept all night and woke up to 50% effaced on Friday. Lame. So they shoved a water balloon type contraption up there that was supposed to do the trick as well. Saturday at midnight they discovered that I was now 75% effaced and 4 cm!! Wooo!! So they gave me 2 hours to eat, take a shower, etc. and then at 2am started the pitocin up again.
Saturday morning I woke up and decided that I wanted my epidural as I was now at 5cm. The first epidural didn't work so I got to try a second time. It was the WORST! Contractions were getting worse and then they broke my water and things got even more intense. By 6pm I had gone another 1 cm. That's only 2 cm in 16 hours!
At this point they started talking about c-section but I was not having any of that. I said we are going to keep going until this kid comes out the bottom! So we tried several different things and somehow I managed to dilate from 6cm to 9cm! They gave me about an hour and then around 8:30 or so we decided to start pushing. At 12:30am they threatened c-section again if he didn't come out soon. I was eventually able to push him out at 1:50am!! Everyone thought I would end up with a c-section but I proved them wrong!! I ended up pushing a grand total of 5 hours!!!!
I spent most of the birth with a really bad virus. My temperature stayed at around 103 degrees the entire time with some pretty insane coughing, nasal congestion, headaches and body aches. It turns out it was a virus in my uterus so we were lucky to get Cayden out when we did. My temperature has gone down to 97 and the virus is practically gone in my body but it got passed on to Cayden and he is in the NICU for the next 2 days to receive antibiotics. We're allowed to visit, feed him, etc. while he is in there so it's not too terrible but a bummer just the same. We are taking one milestone at a time which included being able to breastfeed this morning!
So with all that said, Cayden should be fine but keep him in your thoughts nonetheless
Mom is healthy and

Nobody's induction will be the same as yours, but you only seem to hear about the awful ones. Mine was the opposite! I was induced at 39 weeks and 6 days. I was super scared before induction, but my labor/delivery was a breeze
I was dilated to 1cm since 32 weeks, so I got cervadil for 12 hours and then an epidural and pitocin. Once I got to 10cm I pushed for 20 minutes and E was born, 27 hours after the cervadil was placed. I have no complaints about induction, although I was alittle sad about not "going into labor" on my own.
I was induced at 38 weeks due to elevated BP and protein in urine (no other symptoms of pre-e, but it was decided that I should be induced since I was full term). I had been planning a natural birth and was sooo disappointed.
I went in to the hospital on a Wednesday night. At the time, I was not dilated or effaced. Had the Cervadil in overnight. Thursday morning when the Cervadil was removed, I was a fingertip dilated. I was on Pitocin all day and though I was contracting, by 7 PM that day I was only a "loose 1 cm" and my cervix was still long. The Pitocin was shut off and another Cervadil inserted. I was told that the induction process was likely to be very long for me.
At 3 AM Friday morning, I woke up with "cramps". At 7 AM, the Cervadil was removed and the MW checked me... I was 6 cm!!! The nurse was about to hook up the Pitocin and said "well, I guess we won't be needing this anymore"! DS was born just 2.5 hours later, at 9:30 AM.... epidural free, just as I had planned!
So, I know it is rare, but these things do happen! I went in with no cervical progress and the induction ended up kick-starting me into labor!
11:30pm - Water broke. 3am - At hospital, started Pitocin, 1 cm. 7:30am - 1.5 cm. Asked for epidural. 10:00am - Fully dilated. 10:30am - DS was born.
The epidural REALLY helped me relax and "dilate in peace."
