Pediatric Partners of Towson

Happy Friday ladies!

For those of you who go to Pediatric Partners of Towson, who does your LO see?  Are you happy with them?  Do you see one doctor or do you see all the doctors at the practice?

I have an appt with them in 2 weeks to meet with one of their doctors (Dr. Awalt) and was wondering what others thought.  I plan on taking a list of questions but its nice to hear from other moms!  Just from the brief phone call I had with them today, they seem like a nice office!

TIA!

Re: Pediatric Partners of Towson

  • Dr. Awalt is very nice.

My lo sees Dr. minton and she has been great.  I really liked Dr. paxson too

You will mainly see your doctor unless you have emergency visits.

We see Dr. Minton there - she's been great and the staff is great too. We had a bit of a wait for our 2 week visit but it wasn't that bad. Fortunately they put us back in a room to keep away from the sick kids in the waiting room.

  • I know this isn't really what you were asking, but I thought I would share anyway... We interviewed Dr. Feldman there and liked him. We would have been very comfortable with him as our pediatrician, but decided we really liked another practice just a little bit better. If things don't work out with the other practice then we would be completely comfortable making the switch to Pediatric Partners.

  • We see Dr. Minton there, also.  We love her.  We have seen Dr. Awalt, too.  She is very nice.  Most of the dr.'s are....if we have an emergency appointment and Dr. Minton isn't available, they fit us in with someone who is available.
  • My son sees Dr. Feldman.  I really like the office and just love Dr. Feldman.  He is so easy to talk to and has been very available for any questions that I have had.  The office hours are very convenient and I love that everyday between 8-8:30 I can call Dr. Feldman with any questions.  I can also call other time during the day but he is usually with patients and he calls back later.  My son is now 16 months so we really dont have the amount of questions that we had when he was just a few months old.  We went there on a recommendation from my sister in law.  In the past year two other friends have started seeing Dr. Feldman as well.  Everyone has been very happy with him.
  • We see Dr. Minton too, and I have not met Dr. Awalt. However I am very happy with the practice in general. I was not too impressed by Jody the nurse practitioner that we saw for a sick visit when Dr. Minton was out. For future sick visits, I will ask to see another dr if ours isn't available as opposed to Jody. She's ok for well visits, but left me wanting more during my one and only sick visit. I do like that they take babies to a back room so that they don't have to hang out near sick kiddos in the waiting room.

  • We see the Pediatric Partners office in North PArk Bel AIr. The two offices are linked and I know Dr's switch between the two somehow. Our Dr is Dr Paxson and she is just great! love her! Dr Cox was our on call hospital Dr and I really, really liked her, LO stopped breathing whilst she was in the room, if it wasn't for her been calm and professional I would of been even more of a mess than what I was! I also met Dr Feldman yesterday and I would be happy with him too he was nice!

  • My boys have been seeing Dr. Paxson there for the last 5 years.  She splits her time between the Towson and Bel Air office.  She is great and I really like her.  Only thing that sucks about the office is that they charge $15 for off hour calls...but they have great hours!  I also think the people at the front desk can be less than friendly.

  • DD sees Dr. Minton and we have had only positive things to say about her!  Love her later hours on Wed too- we have also been able to get in on Sat and Sun for emergencies with other docs/np there.

  • I just wanted to write to give perspective on this practice and others like it. It's a HUGE practice with a ton of docs/nurses etc. I thought this was a great thing when I was pregnant and seeking out a practice for DS.

This practice was not a good fit for us.  The first 2 years of your childs life (especially if in daycare) are FILLED with sick visits and you rarely RARELY get to see your doctor outside of a well visit.  They always sent a bill for an overnight or after hours call.(often  happens when your infant gets sick etc)  They always suggested we come into the office, when I'd call in with a question about a possible illness.  It was a total push to get copay in my opinion.

Also, DS had a 5 day hospital stay and severe complez seizure at 10 months and they would NOT offer us an appt with the pediatrician (Paxson) and we just felt very allienated by this.

There have been several other practice faux pas made by this group and after 18 months, we decided to leave.  We've been with Dr Starr at Cross Keys Peds and it is a WORLD of difference.  They do night/after hours calls without bills, he's had another seizure and not only did Dr Starr see him immediately after discharge but the NP (whos amazing) called my house the next morning (on her day off) to see how my son was. We've had several colds this winter and never had to go into the office. Dr Starr talks to you at any time of the night and tells you how to get through illness.

I just wanted to offer this perspective....its what I learned having gone through this that I wouldnt have known as a new parent.

    Good Luck to you!

  • My DD has not needed to go in for a sick visit so I cannot talk from that perspective.  We see Dr. Minton and here are the things I like:

They schedule the well visits at a time when sick kids are not around, although that makes their late hours that I loved when I was shopping around a moot point since they always want her to come in the morning for well visits.

    • They take you right away
    • The doctor will talk to you forever and  I never feel rushed
    • She is very supportive of breast feeding.  My DD is a peanut and I was never told to supplement.  She said she knew my DD was getting enough especially since I pumped and DD was getting a set amount in the bottle during the day and that I could increase solids, once my DD was on solids, for added calories.

    Things that annoy me:

    • She does not always call back in a timely matter and she is often not there during call hours in the morning.
    • The desk staff leaves little to be desired.  They are not always friendly and often forget to ask me if I want to book her next appointment.

Overall I have been happy.  After I started going to her I found out that my aunt took her kids there from the time they were little until 18.  They went to Minton also.

Just to chime in...We have had sick visits a few times and mostly they have been with Dr. Minton (DD's pedi) and not some other doc.  She fit us in recently on a Monday for a follow up check after DD was in the ER that weekend, despite the fact that they were super busy.  And for well visits, we always get a Wed night appt @6pm.
